About us

Whilst we rang the changes with a major refurbishment early in 2015, we were always mindful of the history. Customer feedback confirmed our belief that we have got the balance between the old and new just about right. Our recognition since then supports this:

Our full 2016 Roll of Honour is:

WINNER: Best Partnership Pub, Great British Pub Awards 2016

WINNER: Best Use of Social Media, Star Pubs and Bars Awards 2016

NATIONAL FINALIST: Best Turnaround Pub, Great British Pub Awards 2016

NATIONAL FINALIST: Best Community Pub, Star Pubs and Bars Awards 2016

TRIPADVISOR Certificate of Excellence 2016

CASK MARQUE accreditation 2016

As part of our 'new' pub we hired a new Head Chef, and Peter gracefully retired from the kitchen. This has taken our food to another level, warmly received by our customers and in the process turning The Hastings to a destination food pub. We pride ourselves on using fresh and where possible locally sourced ingredients throughout our dishes. Our food is a mix of the traditional British Pub (e.g. steaks, fish, bangers n mash) and more unique dishes (e.g. crab and lobster burger, Spanish star and American meat board). And, of course, there is never a frozen chip in sight!. In 2015 we also introduced our Geordie Tappaz menu, that has gained us notoriety across the North East. In many ways it is the perfect reflection of The Hastings - a good honest local pub, serving good honest local food.

Our drinks offer is designed to match our food offer - choice and quality. We have a range of cask beers including The Hastings very own '1066' and our charity cask 'Daft As', four draught lagers and an extensive draught and bottle cider range. As part of the refurb we installed the 'smart dispense' system ensuring the perfect delivery of each pint from cellar to glass. With a good selection of wines and malt whiskies, alongside branded 'house' spirits and an extensive premium spirit range we believe there is a satisfying drink for everyone.

Since taking over The Hastings keeping music 'live and local' has been important to Paul and Peter. On Friday nights we have live music nights - with music ranging from rock, soul, blues, a little bit of country, americana and just good honest pop. Throughout the year we have additional live music, including solos, duos and acoustics on Sunday evenings during the summer.. On Wednesday we run a now established pub quiz, in aid of our chosen charity. We also have bucked the trend of many other pubs and maintained our pool table and darts board, as opposed to increasing dining space.

Finally, though many of our customers travel from wider afield for our food and drink, we embrace our place in the local community. Our fundraising for Daft as a Brush Cancer Patient Care was inspired by our first meeting with a 'Seaton Delavonion' (not sure if that is correct but it sounds good!). This includes our now established 'Daft as a Brush Week' which takes place each summer. We are also proud to sponsor Seaton Delaval Amateurs Football Club and we are talking about the many ways we can work in partnership return football and a good local pub to the heart of the community. In 2016 we are furthering our community credentials by working in partnership with Seaton Delaval Arts Centre - a local charity bringing performance and participation in a broad range of arts to our community - and The Friends of East Cramlington Nature Reserve.

Whether you visit as a one off just passing by or are a regular customer are warm welcome is always guaranteed.

Always have a nice meal here. Reasonably priced for the portion sizes and always seems freshly cooked with good ingredients. Bar often has love music and staff are always welcoming. Dog friendly which is a bonus.

Visited for the first time. Margaret was great at explaining the menu and the service was spot on. Food was amazing. Little hidden gem, well worth a visit x

I hadn't been back to this pub for a few years but it seemed nice. It was a little quiet on a Saturday afternoon but as it didn't have the football on it wasn't a surprise. Range of beers was fairly standard though there was one hand pull on which was well maintained. We didn't eat but the food smelled nice and the tabled area was well set out. Staff were very friendly. Worth a try if you are passing; there are a few bars in the area so this is a nice stopping place along the way.

THE HOME OF GEORDIE TAPPAZ
A firm favourite on The Hastings' menu. Is there a better way to beat the January blues than with local comfort food?
Pan Haggerty, Singin Hinnies and Saveloy Sarnies have warmed many a January night in our great region over the years - and are available now at The Hastings. See our full Geordie Tappaz menu below.
Battaar'd Black Pudding with peppa sauce dip, is still my favourite. What's yours?
Geordie Tappaz available at The Hastings throughout food service hours Monday to Saturday.
