About us

Our favourite breweries are the likes of Floc, Deya, Verdant, Burning Sky, Kernel, Polly’s, Beak and Howling Hops. Ciders are from Nightingale. Lager is from Rothaus in Germany’s Black Forest. There’s a range of no and low alcohol beers in bottles and cans too.
There’s always a natural wine on tap, as well as a handful of other low-intervention wines by the bottle and by the glass.
To accompany these great drinks, there are local cheeses, cured meats from Moons Green Charcuterie, handmade pork pies and superior bar snacks.

Situated below Ypres Castle & Gun Gardens is The Ypres Castle Pub. Known as Vipers to us locals. A old rustic pub with a wood fire and great selection of craft ales and beers both local and further a field., Sicilian wine on tap, Prosecco by the glass. The star of the show is ROTHAUS an absolute beautiful pint from Germany or try it in a litre size. Food is crisps or local cheese board or local meat board both reasonably priced and generous portions. The venue at the moment is only open Thursday to Sunday. A large beer garden with views over the Marsh. Dog friendly and friendly helpful staff. Well worth a visit. As I said before a old rustic pub with the wood fire going now. Really cozy, dog friendly as I mentioned before. The ROTHAUS is a permanent one on as well as Ypres Castle bitter. A new lovely pint is FLOC and Geoff the landlord is going to see about getting it as a permanent one on tap. Still only open Thursday to Sunday and bank Holidays. But well worth a visit. Water and Canine snacks outside the main entrance help yourself. During the holiday period the pub is now open Tuesday to Sunday just shut on Monday.

I've been to Rye many times, but didn't realize this place was tucked away by the castle. A must for cask ale and craft ale lovers. A great atmosphere in a traditional style pub, with a decent beer garden opposite. I drank Kent Brewery Prohibition, which was lovely, but plenty of choice.

What a pub this is! Been to Rye twice and each time the Ypres has been the highlight of the visit! No food, just wonderful beer and a superbly chilled old pub atmosphere. I could sit in that bar all day. Lovely beer garden too under the shadows of the castle and with views. A shout out to the young chap behind the bàr too, really friendly and knows his beers! Real ale and craft beer heaven!

Love popping in here when we come to Rye. Always a great selection of well kept beers. Friendly welcome and lovely feel to the place. We will be popping in next month too & after we get married 🥰

Stumbled into this lovely little country pub on a beautiful day in Rye. Fantastic selection of beers and ciders, many from Sussex but lots from around the world. Beautiful beer garden, cozy fire, what more could you ask for?
