About us

After opening in 2019, the Yard Micropub in Blaydon prides itself on using all recycled items and upcycled products to fit its quirky interior with furniture and fittings.

This helps prevent greenhouse gas emissions and water pollutants as well as saving energy. This includes the bar itself, which is in the basement of a very old building, derelict for a long time before it became the Yard.

Smart light systems are in place to save electricity in the toilets and there is dual emergency lighting in all areas, to help reduce waste energy.

This includes making use of the latest bulbs and LEDs, proven to be more energy efficient while also having a longer lifespan.

All bottles and packaging used by the Tyne & Wear-based venue are recycled, and smokeless fuel is used to heat the micropub to help make the venue greener. Smokeless fuel works by producing a higher heat output and can last about 40% longer than a more traditional option such as house coal.

Recycling packaging helps reduce the pollution caused by the extraction and processing of virgin materials.

This charming micropub uses a SmartDispense™ system. SmartDispense™ saves an estimated 6,522 pints of water per venue per year on average, along with 1,740 pints of beer and cider that would otherwise be wasted when cleaning the lines every week. The system also saves on CO2, used to pump beer and cider from the cellar to the taps on the bar. The average pub can reduce beer, water and CO2 waste along with reducing cleaning materials usage by up to 85% a year – a huge saving for the planet.

On top of that, specially-made insulation for the beer lines from cellar to tap means a refreshing, great quality pint at a cool 5°c or less every time, without wasting energy.

And for its food offering, the Yard serves up Yorkshire pudding wraps with varieties including chicken and beef as well as veggie sausage.

On my micropub beer research nonsense. It's a winner. Fudge the pub dog, most friendly checking you out. A selection of beers at time of visit. Enjoy.
