About us

With an aptly named lounge bar, this pub was built about 300 years ago as a private residence with material that may have come from the castle ruins. Mainly food led (no meals Sun/Mon eve) and catering for all dietary requirements there is a choice of dining areas, either the smart restuarant or comfortable lounge. Easily missed pleasant beer garden at rear. Note this is primarily a restaurant and although regular drinkers call in, and one or two individuals may be welcome, it shies away from presenting itself as a drinking establishment.

Very good value B&B, with an excellent breakfast, and dog-friendly (no charge). There is a pay carpark opposite (Castle Dell) which uses the "Pay by Phone" app if you don't have the right change (I had to download the app, but the mobile signal was sufficient to do that without too much trouble). It has 4 EV chargers, and is free to park overnight. The entry keypad to WH fooled us for a while - you have to put your hand on the black Yale box, and a keypad magically appears - poking it with you fingers doesn't work! Great view of the Castle - riverside pubs/restaurants less than 5 minutes walk away.

Rooms are basic and ours was noisy from other guests due to poor noise insulation. Small uncomfortable beds. Entry code didn't arrive in the morning as advised, after calling I was advised the codes hadn't been sent due to guests taking the wrong room key on previous occasions. Unsure how not sending the entry code resolved this problem as all the keys are left out anyway. Later the entry system wasn't working as code wasn't required to gain entry. Breakfast started on time and the service was good.

I stayed in Room Number 7. Make sure you receive the door code for the main door before you arrive. My mobile for some reason didn't receive this. After a phone call to explain, this was then sent again which I received. There were no staff on site on arrival, I found my key on the table and went hunting for the room. The room was at the top with a lovely view of the castle. The room had everything I needed, however it would have been great to have had a hairdryer to use. I didn't meet any staff until the last day for breakfast which they kindly opened up and provided as was only guest at this point. Chepstow is lovely and is well worth a visit.

Great hotel if you are staying in the area. I’ve stayed here twice now & enjoyed both stays. Positives: - really good value for money - great location - good breakfast - check in very easy - dog friendly - friendly staff Other - Rooms aren’t the most modern (it is a historic house), but are clean and offer really good value for money. - Car parking is across the road and is (approx) £4.50 for 24h.

From the front it looks run down, we thought we where going to be disappointed with our stay. What a surprise we had. Our room was in a little grassed courtyard which was great for my 2 maltipoos. The room was lovely and fresh, bed very comfortable, very clean modern bathroom. Male staff member very friendly. Will go back
