About us

The White Swan is a traditional free house right on the banks of the River Thames, Twickenham. The pub dates back to the 17th century. You can see us in a Samuel Scott print, dated 1760, that hangs above the fire in the bar.

The pub is made up of two rooms, a terrace-balcony and a garden right on the riverbank. We have about 12 tables of various shapes and sizes inside, a couple of window seats and a few stools at the bar.

It’s a very cosy pub in winter, especially when we light the fires. In summer we open the doors to the balcony and put up the sun brollies in the garden. Sometimes, at high tide, the garden is IN the river but never for long. Everyone who works here knows what it's like to wade through the water with a few plates or glasses in hand.

Boasting an enviable view this Grade II Listed building features a small terrace balcony and a “beer garden” lapping the Thames. The building, ambience and location here are memorable. Regarded consistently as one of London’s finest pubs and it would be foolhardy and churlish to challenge this universal sentiment. Essential London.

We had a lovely sunday lunch here today. Service and atmosphere spot on, traditional river side pub. Very accommodating for our Sprocker Spaniel. Roaring fire. Nice naked lady ale.

Great venue and, if you sit outside, great views of the Thames. Ordered a selection of starters to share and whilst the staff couldn’t have been more helpful, the food arrived too quickly to have been cooked from fresh. Having said that, the hummus and mustard/honey sausages were delicious whilst the chicken wings were too messy without something too wipe your fingers with.

The Swan is a picture of a quintessential countryside pub next to the river. If you are not local then you might find it hard to find it as the location is past the residential area and is further down the river... Or you might come across the pub when you're walking down the river path to Richmond. Like the name and if your lucky you'll see white swans swimming around. The pub has a small indoor space and a terrace overlooking the river and just across the pub is an extension for outdoor seating. The staff is quite good to remind any guest when high tide comes and when it comes it might flood the outdoor space. There is also a sign next to the toilet entrance as a reminder for all the customers. The staff are always friendly and chatty and the food is delicious and well worth the money. My friend and I had a "vegetarian" burger which was very tasty. Didn't know how big a portion of chips the burger would come, so I tried to order an extra bowl of chips but I was quickly reminded by one of the staff the portion of the chip are decent, and it was and I had a hard time finishing it. The chips they serve are not French fries but proper chips.

Good food. Had the pork belly and rare beef sunday roast which were pretty good. Has few collection of local brewed beers. Little expensive than the typical pubs. Charges extra for service. Nice location. Reserve tables before to avoid last min rush.
