Originally a family home and then a shop, The White Lion was a fully licensed pub restaurant by 1835. Before this the village shop sold local beer, but it was forbidden to drink on the premises, so the farmers drank their beer in a hedge down the lane. The White Lion now welcomes guests to join us in comfortable surroundings to relax and unwind.
A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.
Whether you are planning dinner with friends or Sunday lunch with family, book a table online and enjoy some quality time with those you love the most.

The White Lion in Browshill Green is a welcoming public house where one can enjoy meals and drinks at reasonable cost It is a traditional English pub that has plenty of tables which are well spaced out. There is also a lawn area with tables having large parasols for shade or shelter. You have a wide choice of food, including vegan and vegetarian, and also a good selection of wines, beers and spirits. The staff at the White Lion are friendly and helpful. It has recently been renovated and it is beautifully laid out inside. Went in for a meal today and sat by the fire. It was lovely and comfortable and the food was great.
We have been here many times over the years although my review is based on our most recent experience on a Friday Lunch time. The White Lion had a welcoming warm feel to it. The heating was on. Our waitress was attentive and efficient and gave the impression that she was enjoying her job. The food was served in a timely manner. Not too fast and not too long. There’s nothing worse than going home 30 minutes after you arrive. The food was excellent and nothing was left on the plate. The triple cooked chips were another level and must be tried. All in all an excellent venue in a lovely location.
You have to give one star to post……When booking a table for 6 in September for Christmas Eve we were given the choice of main menu or Christmas menu, we selected main menu to give us more options, however on arrival, after a 15 minute wait for our table, we were told only Christmas set menu at inflated prices was available. We all wanted steak but only ribeye was on menu. It was 6pm and we were told there were no steaks! Our soup arrived hot on top but cold underneath. Sent back. Our main courses arrived half way through our starters. Sent back. Four of us ordered the roast beef, it was disgusting. Lukewarm limp, soggy vegetables, inedible potatoes, overcooked beef, lukewarm gravy. The whole meal had been cooked hours ago. We sent it back asking for it to be reheated at least. Better to have hot revolting food than cold revolting food?We decided against pudding as the food was a disgrace but we were charged for them as set priced menu. Christmas Eve and not even crackers on tables. No log fire lit. No Christmas ambience at all. During the meal a singer turned up, placed right next to us so we couldn’t hear ourselves across the table. Drinks are overpriced too. Bill £285. Are you having a laugh? I was embarrassed as we had guests in our group, one who had never eaten there before. The few staff were rushed off their feet and did their best to cope. After complaining we were given some discount but still extortionate price for the worst meal I’ve ever had there. Other people there for a meal were also complaining. Deputy manageress didn’t seem bothered. 2024 resolution never to eat there again.
My first ever visit to White Lion and it was great. Recently refurbished and very tasteful decor. Lovely Sunday roast. I had the vegan tart and all the trimmings and my friend had roast meat. We both enjoyed every mouthful! It’s a great atmosphere and very welcoming. We were served by Beth very good service (even obliged when asked if she would take a photo of myself and friend) Would recommend.
This pub just had a makeover and this was the first night they reopened. So, the service wasn’t great but understandable. They were so crowded. The drinks were tasty. I had a summer spritzer and it was really nice. Our mains were very good. The only criticism I had was the portion size of my salad. I had a grain salad bowl with grilled chicken. It was delicious but not enough for a main dish. Everyone else at the table really enjoyed their meals. I’d highly recommend. It’s a bit pricey but it’s a lovely place to eat and drink.
