About us

The front bar is a great place to socialise; tall tables and stools allow for easy conversation whether standing or seated. Major sporting events are shown on the TV and in the winter the open fire keeps the chill off.

The Reading Room is a small room with just four tables, which makes for an intimate setting. The area can also be booked for a private dining room or meeting room.

The beautiful 1/2 acre walled garden provides a beautiful and tranquil place to enjoy The New Inn. There is seating for over 100, either on benches or tables and chairs on the patio. We have a beautiful herb garden at the back, that our chefs make full use of within the food that is freshly prepared for you.

This pub used to be fantastic. Now the staff take ages to serve a drink, there never seems enough of them but then you look around & there’s 5 talking amongst themselves oblivious to the waiting customers. No wonder the new pub across the road is packed out & raking it in. Murray, SORT IT OUT. We know you don’t give a monkeys, but it’s rubbed off on your staff & it’s RUBBISH!!

My business colleague and I had a decent lunch here and it is a nice place. Everything was fine and the staff were attentive until two unexpected things happened at the end of our meal - so that's 1* docked for each thing! The pub was pretty much empty and we had unfinished drinks BUT the waiter came up and said to us 'Do you want anything else or shall I get your bill NOW?!' - rather 'pushy' but no big deal (maybe) UNTIL within 5 minutes the waitress came up and said 'Will you pay now'! So I paid in cash but we were still drinking when the waiter came back with £2.40 in change and said 'Do you want this (change)?'! Well considering a 10% service charge had already been included in the bill which I had paid (£3.40) for not a lot of service really I was shocked, and just said 'Yes'! In summary, a nice place and decent food BUT shame about the waiting staff!!

Lovely pub and friendly staff, but food v disappointing, My steak was meant to be medium rare, came out well done and the ‘béarnaise’ sauce was served in a gravy jug and had the consistency of water. Not someone who would complain normally and I felt bad as our waiter had been great. Sent back and politely asked for thicker sauce and it came back the same. Would recommend changing chefs. Such a shame as lovely pub in such a picturesque village.

A warm welcome here this Mon evening, in fact all the staff were fantastic in this characterful Inn. Chili beef enchilada and the chili beef nachos were excellent. Sauvignon blanc was good, Heineken was good but didn't hold a head. Mississippi mud pie was disappointing, the top layer was inedible and the portion small, especially considering the £8 price tag. Upon settling the bill, which I did not study, I left my usual tip, when warranted, but this was given back as a service charge had already been applied at 10%. This we truly dislike this so would not return.

We joined the New Inn for a 'taste of Britain' (four courses with wines matched to each course) event as part of the Hurstpierpoint festival. The room assigned to the event was a little too small and cramped for my liking - a thought echoed by at least a few other diners. There was also quite a lot of noise that came from the bar area and other side of the bar which made it difficult to hear what we were being told about the wine and the food at times. Those fairly minor points aside, the food was tasty, and delicious and paired well with the tipples selected to go with the food. It was also excellently presented. I won't lie, I was slightly sceptical and worried about the menu (please see one of the pictures for the full menu and descriptions) as I wouldn't ever normally choose most of the dishes on it, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed each of them. On top of that, there was a surprise additional final course of doughnuts with strawberry and elderflower jam which were sublime! All in all we enjoyed our night, we had some fun conversations and an enjoyable time, so I'd definitely consider a similar event again in the future.
