Very noisy, cramped area. Our hot drinks were cold by the time the food arrived which wasn't worth waiting for. Tables uncleared and ones that were hadn't been wiped. Would have been better if staff could have advised of a long wait on arriving then customers could decide whether they wanted to wait.

Great food and good staff. they had a lot of deliveroo orders when we visited, so it was a little slow and drinks orders came out at different times. The cakes and food was lovely though. The music was also a little loud/didn't match a relaxed coffee shop during the day. They do have jazz on an evening and a cocktail selection, so it might be better for dinner/drinks.... Dog friendly is a plus

Victor Hugo has a wide variety of tasty options, but the sour bread sandwiches are definitely the star of the show. The bread is incredibly fresh and perfectly toasted, with just the right amount of chewiness. The sandwiches are loaded with plenty of meat, ensuring you hit your protein target. My personal favourite is the turkey sandwich, which is bursting with flavour. The cafe itself has a great layout and beautiful views to the Shore. The only downside to the deli is that it's always freezing inside, so I would definitely recommend bringing some cozy clothes or you may want to consider getting takeaway instead.

Popped in for a takeaway sandwich for lunch. Place was very neat and tidy inside and the person on the counter was really friendly. Ordered a turkey on the toasted sandwich which was packed with thinly sliced meat, sweet cranberry sauce and cheese which was just over £6. Tasted good and wasn't thankfully wasn't as messy to eat as I'd thought despite being packed with filling. Big sandwich that could be split for those with a lesser appetite. Ideal spot to grab a sandwich (and a cold beer from Beets) by the water and watch the world go by.

We had lunch at Victor Hugo Deli after visiting the Royal Yacht Britannia. There were lots of options along Leith Shore but Victor Hugo looked to have the most extensive and reasonably priced menu for what we wanted. We grabbed a table by the window and enjoyed the pastrami on rye (having seen it recommended in other reviews) and the vegetable focaccia. Both were excellent and very generously filled. Service was efficient. I would definitely recommend for a good-value lunch in Leith.
