About us

The Old George Inn is Newcastle’s oldest pub, dating from 1582 and boasting royal links: King Charles I was a regular visitor, while in an open prison nearby; today, we still offer a royal service in this truly spectacular building.

Fantastic food is served seven days a week and we offer a range of great entertainment to suit a vast audience.

Live sport is shown every day whether it be football, rugby or horse racing with the full BT Sport package for those early Saturday games and both 'Racing UK' and 'At The Races' for any horse racing fans.

Lovely pub. We’ve been travelling around and found this pub more comfortable with better food than many. Scott was also great and ensured we were happy. We definitely recommend the 1kg chicken wings and the garlic dough balls (these dishes plus a chips kept two big eaters happy). Pints are a little more expensive than other places we’ve been but don’t let it deter you. It’s currently around 5-5.7 pound for a pint depending on the beer. Edit: came back the next day for pizzas and to try the pizza dough balls. All were fantastic! Particularly recommend the Bombay Chicken pizza. This has become a favourite spot for us.

Had a nostalgic visit to the Old George today. Where my husband & I first met in March 1968! Thank you so much to the lady who let us go to the upstairs bar which we used to frequent in1968 & beyond. Enjoyed a few drinks & a lovely pizza!. We live in Western Australia & hope to make another visit in the future. 😊

Good combination of old (the oldest Inn in Newcastle) and young (the friendly staff at the bar). Inside it is much bigger and nicer than can be judged from the outside. We enjoyed an early drink in the cosy atmosphere and good music. We will return soon and try some food also but we feel already confident to recommend this place. When you are in Newcastle and looking for a nice place.... Just go here.

Came to eat on a Friday lunch. It wasn't too busy. Burger and Pizzas were highly praised by our teenagers and they looked great. Burrito bowl was filling and tasty. Chicken used on the dishes wasn't great but not off putting. Sharing platter was huge and the wings on it were good. Normal prices for pub food nowadays. (Not many places are cheap anymore which is understandable) some great old features still in the pub. Dog friendly. Service was good and manageress was helpful getting us a water bowl dont think they have lots of furry customers.

Absolutely amazing experience from this pub. Would definitely go back. Hidden away is this special gem of a place in Newcastle. The staff are so amazing and friendly, happy to help in any way they can, giving up suggestions and options. The food was delicious and delivered in a quick manner. Their service, the atmosphere and the friendliness are what you hope in a pub but sometimes never truly get. We got that and more. Fantastic experience!!
