The Schooner is an independent free house, serving top notch real ales on cask, crafty beers on keg, a fruity selection of ciders, bottled and canned beers from far and wide and a nice selection of wines. All this and tremendous home cooked food.
We're a friendly and helpful bunch and know a thing or two about the products we serve and we love to make our customers feel at home.
We've also got a bit of a thing for live music. This is why you'll find a few bits and bobs of music based artwork around the place and if you pop down on a Sunday afternoon you'll always find a live band either in the bar our out on the terrace (if it not too chilly). We also have live bands on the occasional Saturday night.
Full Menu and Blackboard Specials are served Monday to Saturday 12 noon to 8pm
Traditional Sunday Roast is available every Sunday 12 noon to 3:30pm
We try to cater for any dietary requirements and will always have options to suit vegetarians, vegans and gluten free.

I don’t know if it was an off day but the atmosphere in the place was almost frightening!! Proper rough family in and the kids were screaming and the parents swearing like troopers,, Aaaaawwful!!! but the food was bloody glorious I really enjoyed the bait x
This is one of my favourite pubs in Gateshead. There's always an event on, mainly live music most nights. The cask ales change often and are all affordably priced, there are also a range of lagers. Unfortunately no key ales. I can't comment on wines but there are the expected spirits. The food is good, delivered timely and reasonably priced though expect quite calorific traditional pub grub.
Can be busy at the weekends and when bands are playing. Good food and generous portions.
Nice atmosphere and decent enough roast dinner on a Sunday - the nut roast was delish and generous portions too! Good vegetarian options and great selection of drinks. Music is never too loud, which I like in a pub setting.
Staff are polite and professional good choice of drinks and plenty of places to sit indoor and out. We had a lovely meal and the steak was cooked as requested. Excellent value for money. I would highly recommend this place, definitely going back.
