We visited for a friend's wake. We will return in happier circumstances soon. We found Cydney and Lara to be excellent t hosts. Very attentive, they were also friendly polite and a pleasure to speak to. We had a nice chat with cydney about the history of this quaint village pub. The lounge and bar are well stocked with period piece furniture. The pub itself is 1600's at the oldest parts with additions in 1990's at the newest. We will return.
We looked at a few spots to host a meal for our micro-wedding. The Talkhouse was brilliant throughout the process of organising a private space and menu. Katy and Freya were both excellent in helping us. The food choices were amazing, as was the food itself! The private space was just right for us to celebrate our special day. Thanks so much!
Came on a Sunday afternoon, expecting a lovely roast, as we've been here several times before and had a great time. Sat down and waited 20 minutes to be served. Had to go to the bar to get someone to come and serve us. We waited an hour before the food arrived, and it was cold. We asked for it to be taken back to the kitchen, and ten minutes later the food arrived at the same temperature. Either the kitchen is a good 2 mile walk away, or their microwave is broken. The potatoes and other side dishes were cold. Very unattentive staff and a very poor service. I was told that the last orders were at 1.45 when booking the table, but other customers came in at 2.30 and were served before us. Staff were sat behind the bar talking whilst we waited for food. The bill was cancelled, but the staff was not apologetic at all, really sarcastic when we left. Definitely gone down hill and such a shame. Staff didn't care at all. Won't be wasting my time and going back.
Food fabulous, worth every penny. Staff very good, however was disappointed to find cleaning ladies smoking 🚬 on table.close to rooms especially as the handbook says not to do this as you will be fined. Room 1 is right next to the kitchen. You can hear the washing up and the cutlery being scrapped around in the metal sink and the conversation between staff. I might be wrong but this might be why the kitchen doesn't start breakfast until 10:00 as you hear nothing until 09:30 in the morning then in the evening dinner finishes at 20:30 to give the kitchen chance to clear up before most people rest at 22:00. Then quiet until the fridges start.
Came for lunch on a Thursday afternoon, I, myself had the In-house ground steak burger and my dad had the Bavette steak. Staff were amazing and attentive, the food came out at a reasonable pace and quality was superb. The Talkhouse is a hidden gem just a fifteen minute drive away from Oxford City and deserves more recognition. Will defiantly be coming back here.
