These licensed premises are an amalgamation of several properties. The larger buildings at the back are Victorian villas, built when Torbay Road was laid out in the 1890s. The two villas were later joined together. After World War II, their front gardens were replaced by shops. In the mid 1990s, the properties were combined and reopened as the Talk of the Town, which retained its name when it became a Wetherspoon in 2010.
The awesome weatherspoon! Near the railway station and the beach. Cheap alcohol and food. They do some lunch time discounts too! Always love any weatherspoon!
The main meals & breakfasts are lovely, good prices & generous portions. Friendly hard working staff. But the desserts are shockingly small for the money. The portions are more child size than adult you don't get much at all. Very disappointing, we bought cakes on the way back to the apartment. Also it's such a shame that dogs aren't allowed, as our family had to split up on holiday and go elsewhere. I think well behaved dogs should be welcome as most are in other places, it's the owners that are the issue. A section for dogs only would be good :) would have given 5 stars if dogs allowed.
Came today place was packed out! Found a table with empty plates on it asked a member of staff would they clear which they did straight away. Ordered on the app was served quickly, i was impressed how quick it was for how busy it was the staff we're superb! Highly recommend 👍

Great position for this place. Shame the beer garden is no more. Seagulls are a problem if you eat outside. They could put netting up like other seaside places. Steak was cooked perfectly, could have counted the amount of peas though! People do like to break the rules though when it comes to not using the dedicated smoking area and the staff are quick to respond. The service is really good and the staff were very attentive to making sure the youngsters were old enough to be ordering alcohol.
