I've always liked this place as it's local and used to do good food...But over the past few years it has declined rapidly. There is hardly any staff and it is pot luck on whether you get a decent dinner or not. The quality has dropped considerably, and sometimes the food is not hot. I used to like the burgers because they were thick and juicy, but now they come out dry and the patties are half the size than they used to be. I had a Burger today and it was so below par, and my partner had exactly the same as me, and both were supposed to have crispy bacon but mine came out without. I can understand if it was super busy, but it was really quiet. The Fries were nearly cold and well over cooked...some of them also looked old as if they were left over from previous meals. When I complained about my burger all I got told was the chef will get a little telling off, but in a joking manner. The professionalism and customer satisfaction of the staff has completely disappeared.I am utterly dissatisfied and disappointed as I have been using their service for 20+ years. I will definitely be considering not visiting again... which is a shame as I am local and used to frequent there 3-4 times a month ☹️
Enjoyed Sunday lunch at the Sunmerhouse. The food portions were filling, tasty, and I appreciated that we were served quickly. It is the standard restaurant approach where there is no table service but one walks to the bar to order. The staff behind the bar were friendly and welcomed me. While the atmosphere is not anything special, it is good enough and comfortable. Not too much noise and there are pictures on the wall of the historical area.
This is my second review since refurbishment. Nicely decorated and more seating, plus an additional bar upstairs and pool table. I enjoyed my food but others in my party were not as satisfied as their meals were dry and over cooked or cold. Staff very good, attentive and friendly but not enough of them so service slow. Prices on food and drinks seem much higher since refit, but they do have special evenings making some items more reasonable. Eg. Burgers £5 on Friday, however, check with staff as not all burgers are included. Karaoke was on tonight.... Bit too loud (not my thing) couldn't talk to friends after it started so we left. Parking now charged but you get that back when you purchase drinks on the pub, toilets available and wheelchair friendly.
