It was a lovely place to stay and eat. The duck breast was very tender and the squash risotto was perfect.

The Crown and Castle is set off the market square and next to the Castle itself . The view from some of the main rooms is over to the estuary- amazing. The hotel is very friendly. Wonderful mix of traditional and modern design. Orford is a delightful village with beautiful cottages set on the sea Food is very good and an affordable range of wines

Wonderful family meal. Service was exceptional and the food was delicious. We had the halibut, lemon sole, monkfish, hake and duck. All cooked to perfection. Our dog was also very happy with his blanket and water bowl!

Have been before to the crown and castle a few times over the years and it has always been a delight. Lovely food and staff. We had a garden room which was perfect for us so relaxing. See you all again crown and castle. Thank you 👍

I’ve loved the Crown and Castle since the days of Ruth and David Watson. I have a dog now, so a ‘dog-friendly’ hotel is essential. Sadly, you need to do better. Our garden room (no 29) was dark and dank, as the sun does not penetrate that end of the garden. I’ve stayed in a garden room further up, which was far nicer. Elsewhere, the hotel is looking down-at-heel. Weeds are growing through the gravel, there’s a big, deep puddle in the turning circle, and the canopy over the outside seating area is torn and leaking. The outside of the main building needs painting; our room carpet was stained; the chrome was peeling off the bath handles; the tiles were mouldy in places, and the mismatched furniture added to a general air of shabbiness. Another problem is that only one dog-friendly table for breakfast or dinner is not enough when other dog owners are staying. We had problems throughout our stay with a couple with three dogs, who had decided that the dog table should be theirs whenever they turned up. On both of the nights we ate dinner, they kept us waiting. On the second morning, we were ordered to vacate the ‘dog table’ we had booked, and shuffled unceremoniously into a side room for breakfast. This, we later discovered, was because staff were worried that the three-dog couple might turn up while we were still eating. We didn’t book for dinner that night because the ‘second sitting’ at 8.15 is a bit late, and we also knew the three-dog couple would keep us waiting. We have no complaints about food, which was brilliant, or the staff, who were obviously put in a difficult position by these entitled people. The manager John even arranged for an extra ‘dog table’ for our third morning. The three-dog couple did not arrive while we were there; we saw them still eating as we walked past the hotel at 10.30am. I would like to know why they were allowed to bring three large dogs when the website states a maximum of two. I’d also like to know why they weren’t expected to book mealtimes like other guests. Despite the efforts of John and the lovely Jessica, we felt like second-class guests.
