Great place. Shame to see it go.
If you were to mention the Smock to most people of my age this is the response you may expect 😬. This pub has always had a dubious reputation right from the very start, and rightly avoided by all but locals. I'm very pleased to announce that there has been a night and day transformation. Most establishments have diversified by introducing food to survive, but the Smock has taken a a completely different approach, and quite frankly it's a breath of fresh air. By nature I like to think I'm friendly and outgoing and I must have spoken to everyone there and we were made to feel incredibly welcome and we had a great night and a good laugh. The refurbished function room, separate from the bar is something to behold containing a slightly raised platform and three dart boards reminding me of a mini Lakeside where they regularly host some serious county completions. I was truly impressed with what they have done to o the place. Forget what you may have heard in the past and give the place a chance and you won't be disappointed I promise. PS where else can you still play pool on a league table for 50p? Rent a function room for £50 and come away knowing you've made new friends? Great! 👍👍

Nice, no frills pub. Clean pint. Very friendly and welcoming staff/owner. Would definitely go again.
