Proper pubs are becoming hard to find as the gentrification of Soho continues apace, so this one, just off Oxford Street, deserves support.
Formerly a Courage house, it has a small, cosy, wood-panelled bar area with a matchboard ceiling and a selection of prints and knick-knacks on the walls.
An overspill bar upstairs is usually open on Thursday and Friday nights to cope with the throng. The handpumps dispense an unvarying choice of London Pride, Spitfire and Greene King IPA to an appreciative clientele of regulars who live or work nearby, and Soho's many visitors.
The pub has been run by Kelvin and Angela Barrow for some 30 years and has seen little change since earlier incumbents, Connie and Alan Jones, who feature in one of the many photos, pictures, playbills and more left in 1980 after 22 years. In their day the pub was described as having 'the intimacy of a village pub combined with the atmosphere of a famous rendezvous', with 'always something delicious to eat - morning and evening.' Nowadays filled rolls are available Monday to Friday until they run out.

small fun and comfortable pub
Nice little pub, can get quite busy but I guess that is a good sign
Old London pub with friendly staff. Unfortunately what let the place down was the beer. It tasted off . Perhaps you need to clean your pipes out more regularly Update to The Star and Garter response. Well you obviously didn’t clean your pipes that day because the beer smelled like old farts. Won’t be coming back. Plenty of great boozers in the area to spend my money in.
I love this place! The service is amazing they are very nice and smily. You have quite a lot options for drinks. I go to London 4 times a year and every time I visit it here. Even the manager already know me and treat me nice. 😊
Everything you'd expect from a traditional pub, this place has lots of charm. Nothing fancy or sophisticated but that's the point - a great place for people from all walks of life to come and socialise. Speedy service. Cask selection could be better but beer was well conditioned. If you're in the area it's well worth a visit!
