About us

Hello and welcome to our website, we are Stuart & Anita Webb, the new landlords at the Stags Head, Westbourne, having taken over the pub on the 30th October, 2017.

We initially closed the pub for four days to carry out major refurbishment works to create a warm and welcoming ambience to the establishment. The new look Stags, which opened on the 4th November, 2017 is located in the very heart of the charming and vibrant village of Westbourne, West Sussex. The village which traces its history back to the Domesday Book, is now better known as where the astronaut Major Tim Peaks grew up. In its day Westbourne was a thriving market town, which boasted eight alehouses. However, much of the village was rebuilt after a devastating fire in the 16th century. Now one of only three remaining pubs, the Stags Head has been at the centre of village life for the last 200 years. The pub derives its name from the days when stag hunting in the forests nearby was a common pastime for the local gentry. Indeed, the pub sign bears the an inscription which is translated to ‘the Scottish Red Deer”. Originally, the pub was divided into separate lounge and public bars, but is now an open-plan bar and restaurant welcoming locals and visitors alike with its range of real ales, beers, ciders, wines, a large selection of local gins and delicious food. We also host an outside bar for the warmer days, and you may like to know we are dog friendly too! The Stags Head is especially known for its mouth-watering Sunday carvery and our weekend ‘all-you-can-eat’ breakfast - booking is highly recommended! Our beef & sausages are supplied by our local butcher, Richard Treagust, and all our food is home made on the premises. We hope to welcome you soon to our establishment and feel confident you’ll be glad you made the visit.

Popped in for lunch today on the off chance. We hadn't booked and there was no vegetarian dish left. Didn't matter as I just had the beautifully cooked veg - cauliflower cheese, leeks, carrots, mashed swede, parsnips, brocoli, roasties and Yorkshire pud. Truly fabulous and outstanding friendly service

First time going to this pub, we went for a Sunday carvery. The food was nice and it was good quality veg and local meats. The landlord and lady couldn't have been any nicer and made a lovely fuss over my 1 year old and were very happy to give him a little extra attention - which always goes down well! Deserts cover a good range of options and round off the meal very nicely. The pub dog was super well-behaved and friendly. Lovely, welcoming atmosphere.
