Friendly pub and great venue for wee gatherings.
Been a regular for years, still great wee pub but never been in the rooms upstairs
The welcome consisted of the publican wordlessly checking my reservation in a hardback notebook before producing a card machine in an act of silent 'you pay now', all the while radiating borderline hostility and contempt. I've experienced more warmth in a walk-in freezer. The room was actually OK; comfortable, clean and with some evidence in the decor that those involved have watched Alex Polizzi on Channel 5. Water pressure in the shower equivalent to being urinated upon by a dehydrated mouse, but bathroom cleanliness couldn’t be faulted. Light sleepers who go to bed early should bring ear plugs. On a Friday night you'll remember this a convivial, unpretentious pub (with - it must be said - knockout views from the beer garden). Overall, rather expensive for what you get, but Scotland isn't cheap and by the jaw-dropping standards of the Edinburgh area in August, it's decent value. But those unwelcoming first moments would put me off returning or wholeheartedly recommending.
No parking. Single glazed windows don't close properly. Threadbare towels (although clean). WiFi doesn't extend to rooms. Chipped cup in bedroom. No toilet roll holder. Very expensive for what you get (would be fine at half the price).
Never stayed in the rooms, but I have been going here since I was 18. Great pub, good staff, food service is 10/10. There's different areas to sit in, we like the cosy middle section , I take my eldest son with me for nachos for our treat and he loves it. No doubt he will be going there when he turns 18 😂😂😂😂 take his mum out for a pint 😉
