About us

Located at the end of Mortonhall Gate, just past the Klondyke Garden Centre and near the Mortonhall Camping and Caravan Park entrance, you'll find that The Stable Bar is packed with both charm and character.

We have plenty of seats in our historic courtyard for you to use on hot summer days, and a wood-burning stove that keeps the bar snug and warm on cold winter afternoons.

Since taking over the management of the bar, in the summer of 2014, we’ve made

alterations to the drinks and food that we serve – please see the DRINK and FOOD sections for more information – and we've recently refurbished the 'Saddle Room' and refreshed some of the main bar decor too.

As many of our customers like to call-in for refreshment whilst they’re out enjoying the views from the Braid Hills Trail, it should come as no surprise to learn that we’re a dog-friendly pub too!

If you’re in the area, then why not venture along and have a wee-look-see for yourself? We’d be delighted to welcome you to The Stable Bar very soon.

– Iain, Fiona and The Stable Bar team.

"A good-sized piece of fish," said the menu. Well, I don't know if I had the "fi" or the "sh" part of it but it was small, cut straight down the middle of a fillet, so I don't know where the other half was. It apparently had been on the seafood diet as it was pretty thin too! I expressed my disappointment to the waitress as nicely as I could the next time she came to the table, which was at the end of the meal, but got the distinct impression that she couldn't care less. I know things cost more these days but at nearly £14 ( which I also have to work harder to have to spend these days!) I would have expected more than a minnow on my plate. Shame because it was nicely cooked. Thankfully we have a fair bit of choice for places to go in the area. Won't be back.

Its bar food done well. Simple menu with typical choices, fish n chips, steak pie etc 3 in our group all had different dishes everyone enjoyed food. Service was efficient & staff all friendly. Reasonable value for money, nothing fancy, decor old rustic & had a good atmosphere. We will definitely eat there again!! Dogs very welcome. Great for walkers.

Always get a warm welcome ( and nice cosy warm pub when the fire is on ) when you visit The Stables at Mortonhall. They are nestled behind the caravan park down just the road past The Klondyke Garden Centre. There's always ample parking outside. The Stables serves great pub grub. Always well cooked, piping hot and tasty. On our last visit, we ( 2 of us ) chose patè on toast & haggis bonbons for starters and 2 fish and chips for our main. All washed down with a refreshing cider. Staff are always very friendly and helpful with the food being served quickly and with a smile. The Stables is an old building with a brick fire place and visible wooden beams running along the ceiling above. Really gives you an authentic country pub feel. Inside there is plenty of seating and outside in the courtyard ( if the weather allows ) you can enjoy your meal in the sun. 👍

Having toured the NC500, we decided to stay in Edinburgh for 2 nights. We stumbled on this place by chance. We can't recommend this place highly enough. The staff are amazingly friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Decide for yourself.. pay them a visit! Thank us later..
