Formerly The Prince of Wales Theatre, this was then a cinema of the same name, built on the site of the New Theatre Royal.
They've done a really good job of the interior here and, for a Spoons, it's quite clean! But it is still a Spoons... Overcrowded, tables dirty (with glasses seldom being cleared) and last time we went it took them 50 minutes to make a cocktail pitcher (granted this was on a Saturday night). In short: you get what you pay for. Good place for a cheap pint and not much else.
This is a great place to grab some food. The biggest issue is that it is very busy, so it is not quick. The service is good and the food was lovely. We had a lovely full English breakfast around 11 a.m., and it was pretty busy then, around 25 to 30 min wait. A great place to go for very reasonably price food and drinks, as long as you really are not looking to have a good chat with anyone as it is so busy that it makes a lot of noise, but it is a great atmosphere.
Drinks - great price in comparison to other prices. We tried food here for the first time and surprisingly was very good. Tables could be cleared and cleaned more often, and wiped properly many were just sticky. 😫 In overall this is very nice pub, big lively nice architecture of old theatre. And great central location 👍🏻
Massive restaurant/bar spread out over 2 floors located in a historic building that once was a theater. The theater boxes are still present and one view upstairs has you looking at what looks like theater seating although is just decoration. There is plenty of options on the menu and all well priced as well as inexpensive drinks. I can see why it is so popular any day of the week. Currently there is construction taking place inside the building although only visible from the outside of the restaurant.
Excellent food and service. It's always over crowded on weekends. You get money's worth here. Lot of beer and cocktail choices. Originally it was an opera Theatre. Now converted in to a pub. Neet and clean pub.
