About us

With two bars you've a choice of both a restaurant or traditional bar for your food and drinks. The restaurant has a large wood burner, with the bar having a lovely open fire and bar billiards table. If you feel you need to catch up with emails or the internet then please feel free to use our Wifi connection in either bar.

We are dog-friendly and are very happy for you to bring your canine chums into the pub but we do not allow dogs into the restaurant area. Likewise if you are planning a hack, then please do use the horse corral behind the pub if you're in need of a rest from the saddle. If you have any questions or requests then please call The Sorrel Horse on 01394 411617.

We are recognised by CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) as a True Heritage Pub and will continue to maintain the strong traditions that have served the pub so well for such a long time.

We have a policy of supporting East Anglian breweries where possible. Our roster of beer, lager and cider includes; Adnams, Aspalls, Calvors, Cliff Quay, Earl Soham and Woodfordes. We tend to have 2 different cask ales on offer but rotate the ales so you've always got a different choice. We have Calvors Premium (5%) lager, as well as Carlsberg and Aspalls Cider, all on draught. Added to this we have an extensive wine list, catering for as many tastes as possible. If you've a favourite which we don't stock then do let us know, we're always keen to hear from you.

We are especially proud of our pub since it was purchased in August 2011 as a result of a community led project with the aim of ensuring the pub's long-term viability for the local and wider community. The pub purchase has been characterised by the tremendous warmth and support of a very large group of individuals who all recognised that the future success, longevity and development of the village and pub were inextricably linked. Very poor choice as the menu available was nothing like the one available to view online. Scampi was mainly breadcrumbs, very poor quality. As a very experienced caterer myself I estimate the food cost of the scampi meal to be around £3 to £4. Unfortunately there are very few chefs around these days, many call themselves chefs but they lack to training and skills of true professionals. The worst meal that I have been served for a very long time, even the beer was warm. Needless to say, I won’t be going back and won’t be recommending. 3 persons £25 per each including half pint of warm beer.

Amazing atmosphere and service, we been to this restaurant previously. We weren't disappointed. The service was exceptional all staff were very polite and friendly. The food was excellent, would definitely recommend people go there if you love fish.

We’ve been today for the third time and I must say each time the food was so delicious, staff is delightful and atmosphere is so, so cosy. If you’re looking for a nice seafood platter and other delicious fresh seafood (crab gratin is delicious to die for, same with lobster), this is the place to go. I also loved today my non seafood option. If you are in the area, do reserve a table and try this fantastic place! Parking is spacious, toilets are nice and clean and it’s wheelchair accessible from the back, unfortunately not the garden.

Delicious local food in a gorgeous thatched building. Can especially recommend the burger - super juicy and full of incredible flavour. Service was a bit slow and we had to ask for a few things eg. menu, ketchup, the bill twice....but it was friendly nonetheless.
