The iconic Victorian Grade II listed building has been twice winner of the Sunderland and South Tyneside CAMRA branch ‘Pub of the Year’ and offers a fantastic selection of cask and craft beers and ciders.
We have recently became the pub with the largest bottle collection in Sunderland, with over 100 different tipples on sale! Private room hire is available for parties and gatherings.
Went up Sunderland for the weekend taking the game for Stoke in. Went here before the game. Great selection of beers at reasonable prices. Was really made feel welcome. Had pizza 🍕 and chips. Decent pub grub. Lovely friendly bar staff and clientele.
Mine and my partners favourite place to visit if we want some authentic pizza. I'm not the greatest fan of fried chicken but this is amazing no grease at all.
Another CAMRA Good Beer Guide pub in the 2023 edition that Casta found. Lovely bar area with a lounge on the other side of the entrance hall. There is a rear patio as well. The only downside on our visit was the live band in the upstairs venue. The downstairs juke box was loud but the base from upstairs made the ceiling a giant woofer. Like bad feedback. The beer however was excellent. I took a Three Kings brewery Americal Pale called Rain Shadow. Lots of real ale choice plus draught cider.
Charming traditional pub with decent street food. The service is lovely. My pizza was burnt on a lot of the crust. You can try to argue it was char, but it crumbled to ash. The unburnt parts were OK but I didn’t love the dough. The fried chicken was juicy. The breading was light and tasted like chip shop batter. I couldn’t notice any spice or seasoning (if there was any) but the sauces were packed full of flavour so made up for it. The batter fell off the tenders so I ate it separately from the chicken.
Always been a decent pub but the beer selection and quality of food is getting better and better. Always rotating keg lines to suit every taste plus a lot of craft cask, and also cans. The food is amazing. Everything. I have tried the pizzas, chicken, burrata salad and different types of the loaded fries and they are all out of this world. My favourite place to eat in town right now.
