The room and situation was lovely especially the view from the balcony. The main place for dropping marks was in the dinner service. The servers seem to have difficulty in communicating and interacting with customers. Our starters arrived after a 45 min wait, once finished we were then informed 1 of our mains was sold out , when our mains arrived we were short of mushrooms, tomato and onion rings the potatoes were substituted for fries and they didn't taste nice the food was generally warm , but served on cold plates. The reason given was they had new staff in the kitchen. I think a re- think on the communication in the kitchen I would go down well The next morning our full day breakfast gained top marks in taste and presentation.

We previously posted an excellent review when we had brunch in the bar with friends a couple of months ago. Because of the above we booked new years day dinner at 1630 for family and friends (7 adults and a child). It took staff 30 minutes to take our food order. After 30 minutes 2 of the 8 starters were delivered to the table. We asked where the remaining starters were and were told the chef thought they were main courses and hadn't cooked them. They came after another 20 minute wait. When the starters were eaten and plates cleared after 10 minutes staff started delivering our main courses. Our friends steak pie did not arrive and the chips with my fish and chips were cold, requiring the plate to be returned. After complain to the restaurant manager the steak pie and fish supper were delivered to the table about 20 minutes later. Due to the above we refused to order a sweet dish or tea/coffee. The restaurant manager supplied us with a free bottle of wine and deleted the cost of late starters, steak pie and fish and chips from the bill. Although this was appreciated our new years day dinning experience was completely ruined. At least five other tables had the same experience as us, with one table ready to put their coats on and walk out. The restaurant needs to get their act together if they want returning customers.

I had booked for four nights, as I have dined here over many years. I booked out after two, under protest and having to pay for all. I then emailed from two accounts, my complaint and was blocked on both after sending. Absolutely shocking service, from what one reviewer accurately described, as a “glass-eyed”, Manager. Since I was a guest you would have assumed you would be treated at least as well as his ‘local clientelle’. However, the opposite was true and I had to wait and be studiously ignored by him, whilst he served his buddies, between shuffling his menu sheets. After 30 mins waiting for service, I asked the waitress what had happened, and she said, “there are other people you know”…..and I was there, alone first, all afternoon! It was only after I told her that I had been placed in the top tier of Google reviewers, did I get a menu! Yes, having scanned their accounts, breaking-even was a struggle before this, so called Manager was in place, and I have no doubt that, is now a forlorn target.

We didn't stay here but booked in for a meal. Staff are fantastic and very attentive. My partner had fish which was very well presented and tasted lovely. I had the veg curry which again was well presented but a tiny bit bland. That said the place is beautiful and the beer is very well kept. Sticky toffee pud was awesome. Worth a visit.

Had booked afternoon tea as birthday present. The afternoon tea was fresh and tasty with a great selection, definitely recommended. We asked for coffee, had to ask again for this later on as they didn't bring it. Seemed to take a while being made. Staff huddled in the corner at the bar on arrival.
