About us

A spacious, colourful and welcoming pub with a heated decked rear garden and roaring fires, The Sov, as it's affectionately known, is part of Brighton's history and a prime drinking spot for young and old alike; a healthy mix of tradition and progress.

The Sov is one of Brighton's best and most celebrated freehouses. We're proud to offer a delicious and varied locally sourced menu, great entertainment and a welcoming atmosphere from our lovely staff.

We offer an excellent selection of well-kept local Sussex ales , and also have a wide range of craft beers for those with differing taste buds. Our wines and lagers cover all the old favourites as well as a few interesting extras. With a wide variety of drinks available, you'll be sure not to go thirsty.

The Sovereign has been famous for its amazing roast dinners for years. Come in and see why for yourself (bookings are advised). There is no reason for the vegetarians and vegans to miss out on the fun, as we of course offer a couple of meatless roast options.

Throughout the week we have “Happy Hour” from Monday to Friday, 5pm - 7pm with discounts on selected pints, house spirits & house wines. On top of this, we have fantastic drink deals available all the time, including 3 for 2 on all your favourite shots as well as house double up deals for just £1.50.

The Royal Sovereign is also a dog-friendly pub, so feel free to bring your well-behaved furry friends in for a dog treat.

With our suntrap beer garden for the summer and our roaring fire for the winter, the Sovereign is THE place to be all year round

We look forward to welcoming you soon.

A very welcoming feel pub, just off one of the main shopping streets, in amongst, what I would class the far east quarter for food. The beer was good and went down a treat. The evening we went there was live music, Which wasn't banging out the sound, you could still talk. Would go back there again.

Really great pub with a gorgeous real fire. We visited on Boxing Day and enjoyed a delicious curry each. The kitchen were happy to prepare my yellow vegetable curry without chilli as I cannot have anything spicy. The kitchen were also very happy to accommodate vegan options. And the prices are good, too! The staff are very friendly and astute when it comes to 'Challenge 25' which is refreshing as so many places seem to serve seemingly 16 year olds unchallenged! Great selection of ales, wines and spirits with happy hour from 5-7pm Monday to Friday. We highly recommend and will be visiting again.

Came here for a quick drink and snack, was welcomed by the friendliest and loveliest staff! The snacks / Thai food here was also very good. Highly recommend

We just drank there to get out of the rain. Lovely at lunchtime with the fire burning on a cold day. Great decor, lots of fun bits on the wall, beautiful old lamp shades over the bar - they look lovely.

We were a little bit skeptical at first as the combination of thai food and pub sounds new to me, however the mango sticky rice we had was top tier of those we’ve had in the UK! Chef is polite and the bartenders are friendly and have a charming smile. Overall I’m satisfied with the visit :)
