Went there for a group lunch. Very well organized, served on time, attentive and friendly staff. I had the pie, which was excellent.

The pub may be advertising that they’re dog friendly, but the locals definitely aren’t. We phoned first to find out if we could bring dogs and book a meal. I was told we could only sit in the bar as they didn’t allow dogs in the restaurant. That was fine. We have 2 puppies, 4 and 8 months. Because they are still young, they can both be a bit noisy. There was a group of women sitting next to us who started making comments to each other about how dogs should be kept outside etc. We ignored the comments until one of them said to the other that they should be muzzled. I turned to them and told them that they were puppies and muzzling dogs is a bit harsh and anyway it won’t stop barking. At this point they got up and left. For some reason, another man in the pub then felt that he needed to get involved in things that didn’t concern him. There were many snarky comments about dogs and we were made to feel very uncomfortable. We were only 5 mins into our meal when we decided to leave as one of our visiting friends was verbally threatened by a guy who was obviously a local. As we were leaving he also swore at the lady in our party. The bar staff apologised but they still charged us full price for the meal that we had barely eaten ! The bit we had seemed to be very good, but the clientele spoiled it and we didn’t get to enjoy it. I would not recommend coming here if you have dogs as our experience was very unpleasant…

Had Sunday lunch here with friends. Hard chairs, paper menus and paper napkins. Generous portions of food. Roast potatoes good but cauliflower cheese was too runny. Staff pleasant and food came out reasonably quickly. Main courses good value at £14.

When you travel 100 miles for your family pre Christmas weekend getaway and you walk into the pub which is festooned with Christmas decorations, has 4 ales, including a winter warmer on tap, and a roaring fire at one end of the pub, you know you have made the right choice for the family Christmas meal. Having researched the Whitstable area for somewhere to have our Christmas meal I found the Royal Oak on Tripadvisor and having viewed the menu, which included a children’s Christmas menu, I decided to book and was I glad I did. From the moment I contacted the pub to the moment we left after our meal the service was excellent and everything very reasonably priced. What can I say about the food, each and every one of us commented on how good the food was and how plentiful the meals were. Both the children tucked into their dinners and cleared their plates. If you’re looking for somewhere to have a Christmas meal with friends I would highly recommend the Royal Oak.

Absolutely smashing Sunday lunch here today. 2 of us veggies , 2 adults, 1 child. Absolutely delicious. Childrens me u for £8 for 3 courses. A really generous amount of veg and trimmings. My husband couldn't decide between Pork and Beef So He had both at no extra cost. Brilliant service despite the lady clearly being rushed off her feet and they squeezed us in with no booking. Always have a great time here.
