About us

DISCOVER A QUALITY FAMILY RUN TRADITIONAL INN LOCATED IN THE HEART OF ABERDEENSHIRE..

Whether you plan to hike, cycle, golf, visit castles, distilleries (Glen Garioch is on our doorstep) meet for business or just take some time out to relax, The Redgarth is well suited to any of these activities. Aberdeenshire has some of the most varied landscapes in Scotland from rugged mountains, tumbling mountain streams, fertile lowlands and one of the most ornate coasts in the country. The town of Oldmeldrum lies to the west of Aberdeen, just off the A947 (20 minutes from Aberdeen Airport) where narrow streets and interesting houses reflect the irregular plan of a medieval market town. Oldmeldrum itself means 'burn of the bare hill ridge' from 'Allt' meaning burn, 'Maol' bare and 'Druin' ridge or hill.

Please see our 'Local Attractions' page for more information.

IT ALL STARTED WHEN...

The Redgarth ( Red House in its Garden) was built as a house in 1928 by a local baker called John Gordon. Occupation followed by an excise man Mr Robertson, who also catered for bed and breakfast before selling the house to the Earl of Winchilsea. Over the years although many upgrades have taken place the building essentially remains as it did when it was first built.

1961 - 1980 Bill Paterson (Grocer) - First drinks licence traded under"The Redgarth Cocktail Bar"

1980-1987 Duncan Porter (Grocer) food introduced in Jan 1982 and kitchen and dining area added

1987-1990 William Clark (Haulier)

1990- Stuart Singer (Cask Conditioned Ale introduced and became an inn in 1994).

Stayed here for one night for a wedding elsewhere recently, and I have to say the room I booked was very, very nice. I stayed in the Yew room, and it was very big, very clean, and the fit and finish was top notch. Sometimes you don't know how a hotel will be, but I'd recommend this one any day of the week. The owner was very friendly, and breakfast was top notch. If I'm in the area again, I'll definitely stay here. Oh, and the room rate was very reasonable!

We, a family group of 5, needed a place near the Aberdeen airport to spend our last night after a wonderful two-week trip in Scotland. The Redgarth turned out to be the absolute perfect place! We enjoyed spacious rooms, delicious food in the restaurant, and wonderful conversations with Stuart, the proprietor. And in the morning after a scrumptious breakfast, just a quick 20-minute trip to the airport. Couldn't have been better!

Stuart and his team could not be friendlier or more accommodating. I have stayed here many times and every time it never ceases to amaze me. The rooms have been beautifully refurbished and are immaculate. Food is plentiful and excellent quality (I highly recommend the Cullen Skink!). After a long journey, arriving here is always a pleasure, never a chore.

What a find the Redgarth is, Stuart and his team run a fabulous place. From the moment you arrive Stuart looks after you and makes sure your stay is perfect. I had the Cherry room complete with a “loo with a view” spotlessly clean and all the features were top notch including the shower and bathroom, big comfy bed and cleaned daily. Continental breakfast is of a high standard and a beer in the evening in the bar in a pleasant atmosphere. This really is a great place to stay and highly recommend if in the area….5 stars to Stuart and his team.

This is a fantastic find- we stayed overnight for a nearby wedding and were delighted to make a new discovery in the area! The rooms are beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean. The welcome from host Stuart is second to none and breakfast was a treat. Excellent value and a lovely experience. Only regret not sampling the dinner menu because the food in the bar looked amazing but we will be back!
