About us

I embarked upon a challenging journey in the spring of 1999 when I bought the derelict Railway Inn. I dreamt of following in my mother, Edith’s footsteps and working hard to support my two young girls. I am proud to say that my mother was somewhat of a pioneer for women.

Anyone who had met and known her would agree she was a force to be reckoned with. Edith was one of the very first landladies in Hull who ran the Punchbowl on James Reckitt Avenue and the Blue Bell in Sproatley for many successful years. Combined with my mother’s determination and the strength of my family now 17 years since the start of this adventure, I am proud to be working hard as a team with both my daughters, Michelle and Lydia. Lydia has just welcomed her first child into our family and named her Lily Edith in memory of her nana who sadly passed away in September 2015.

Together we are extremely proud of our homely country pub and we continue to pride ourselves on our homemade pies with the recipe remaining the same over 3 generations.

Dogs; Whilst we are happy to accept well behaved dogs into our dog friendly tables in the tiled bar area (tables 10-16). This is a discretionary service which we have had to restrict during our busier periods, we have had to make the decision to no longer allow dogs inside during our extremely busy Sunday service. We would always advise making a reservation via our 'book now' link if you are bringing a dog with you, as you can select a dog friendly table when making your booking.

Large Party's; For bookings for parties of 10 and above a deposit is required to secure all bookings at £10.00 per person.

If you need to cancel please give us 24 hours notice and a full refund will be given back.

My experience at the Railway Inn was one of the worst I've ever had at a restaurant. The staff were incredibly rude and argumentative when I simply asked to speak to the chef about a complaint I had with my meal. Instead of trying to resolve the issue, they became defensive and dismissive. I felt like I was being treated like an inconvenience rather than a paying customer. I would strongly advise anyone considering eating at the Railway Inn to think twice. There are many other restaurants in the area that offer far better food and service.

This is a lovely rural village pub with delicious food. Brilliant steak pie, homemade & always spot on! Prices are very reasonable & it has a nice friendly & welcoming atmosphere. Never stayed there, as live local.

What an amazing place! Went here for lunch with my wife and mother. We received a friendly greeting on arrival by the two young ladies on shift and told to pick any table. Drinks orders were taken at the table and arrived quickly, served in crystal glasses. Between us we ordered the pie of the day (steak and black pudding cooked in Guinness), lasagne with garlic bread and a side of chips and a lovely creamy curry. The portions were large, cooked to perfection and amazingly tasty. We all agreed this was one of the best pub lunches we had ever eaten.

Another fabulous Sunday lunch, I didn’t fancy the full Sunday roast today so decided on the curry from the the special list and wow what a choice it was. I enjoyed every mouthful right from the first to the last, it was cooked to perfection as always and delivered to the table in good time with the care and respect the dish demanded. The staff are always welcoming, friendly, attentive and really want to make your visit as pleasant as they can. If you are looking for a lovely afternoon out with great food, great service in lovely surroundings then make the Railway Inn your next stop

Pub food and drink

Food & drink

We serve high quality homemade country fair along with carefully selected real ales in a casual surrounding.

To guarantee high quality and fresh produce, we source our ingredients locally wherever possible, regardless of cost. Edie, Sue’s mum, was one of the first ever landladies to produce bar meals. Now 50 years on and 3 generations later, the family knowledge has been passed on to her daughters, the same way her mother had to her. We continue to pride ourselves on our Homemade Pies, with the recipe remaining the same.
