About us

As a traditional village pub we are pleased to boast a wide selection of Cask Ales, Lagers, Ciders and Wines.

We keep the local favourite, Harvey's Best Bittter, on as a permanent but change our other guest casks on a frequent basis. The wine list, which can be seen on the link below, is pretty robust and chosen to compliment the food on offer and the local customer base.

Set upon the beautiful pond of Rottindean, The Plough Inn really is at the heart of the pretty seaside village. There is plenty to do and see in Rottingdean with its beach and seafront, picturesque village green, gardens and pond as well as the famous windmill. There is also a thriving High Street with many new businesses, shops and cafes, restaurants and pubs.

Here at he Plough Inn we love our food and we want you to love it too! Using locally sourced ingredients we create all sorts of dishes from traditional to the contemporary.

Recently we've made quite a few changes including a new Head Chef - Joel Cunliffe - who was perviosuly Head Chef of the group's town centre pub The Cricketers. Joel's aim is to build upon our existing (great!) reputation and raise it another level by introducing a more modern take on pub food.

Our menu still incorporates plenty of pub classics and lighter dishes that are certainly at home within the surroundings of our quaint village pub, however there is now a increased focus on higher standard main courses that will whet the appetite of those customers looking for something a bit more special. We hope you enjoy our new menu!.

We never received our food order due to waiting so long!! We arrived at 6pm at our booked table & placed our order for food at 6.10pm. We were then left waiting & waiting! We asked the bar staff where our food was after 40 minutes of waiting and they told us it is on it’s way! We then waited a further 15 minutes before we decided to leave, as we had to get back home to let our babysitter go home. There was also a table of 8 people sat opposite us who we understand waited for over 1 hour to get their food! Surely the chef/bar staff would know how long the food would be and they could of advised that there was a long wait; it's not as if they knew we weren't coming as we had booked a table!! Shockingly poor service with no apology or offer to rectify our awful experience.

A cute little pub in the centre of Rottingdean. The food is magnificent, huge portions, beautifully served by friendly staff in gorgeous surroundings. A real treat! Book to ensure you get a table!

The Plough Inn is a wonderful pub within the very pretty village of Rottingdean. The menu offered some great options something to cater for all tastebuds, with some superb classic dishes from fish pie, bangers and mash or fish and chips to mention a few. We opted for the later and really enjoyed the dishes we received. The prices were reasonable and the staff were very welcoming to all patrons and visitors passing through. There was a small bear garden, however the village lake is adjacent and locals were taking their drinks out and sitting around the lake enjoying the sunshine and local views. The venue itself is a beautifully rich with the warmth of the lovely wood panelling carefully paired with tasteful pictures a great local to enjoy a drink or visit for food. Either way, you won’t leave disappointed.

We (husband wife and 5 y.o) had a fantastic time here. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I think their names were Christina and Izzy? Anyway, very nice. We had the fish and chips and it is honestly the tastiest I've ever had, even beats our favourite fish and chip shop. The fish was chunky and fleshy and very fresh. The home made tartare sauce was incredible, I don't usually eat it, but I had a whole small pot of it. The locals were very inviting and nice to talk to (thank you Frank). The location is great, adjacent to a delightful reasonably sized pond, complete with a variety of ducks/wild birds. Dogs are welcome in the pub too. Would highly recommend this to anyone in the area, or planning on a stop if passing through. Would certainly visit again.

Lovely little pub positioned at the top end of Rottingdean. The decor is great and has a comfortable feeling about it. It also has a lovely pub garden. Great food menu choices. There is also a great selection of beers and wine. I can personally recommend the Sunday roast it was excellent. Service was excellent and attentive. Highly recommended.
