About us

Ships have been moored at Aberdyfi since 1109, although the buildings didn’t follow until 1569 during the reign of Elizabeth I.

The Penhelig Arms, originally a collection of fisherman’s cottages, now a jewel of Welsh hospitality, overlooks the stunning vista which was, at one time the ship building harbour, surrounded by the Snowdonia National Park.

Whatever your reason to visit our tranquil, beautiful part of Wales, you can be assured of a warm welcome, genuine hospitality, great real ale, fine wines and excellent quality food with menus inspired by coast and country.

We’ve been here since 1750 and we look forward to welcoming you.

Stayed this weekend in the Jones apartments. What really made our stay was the wonderful staff who could not have done anything more to ensure our stay was memorable. The manager was really helpful and had obviously trained his staff well. The room was well appointed and clean. Absolutely brilliant location and dog friendly; a real plus for us. Well done and thanks!

The Penhelig Arms provides first rate food and drink and we always call in when in Aberdovey. Nice beer garden overlooking the estuary providing fantastic views. Their Rev James bitter is one of the best ales I`ve ever tasted and perfectly kept.

I have eaten and drunk here several times, always accommodating. The beer is good and well kept ale. choice is limited but what they do have is clean and the gold is particularly fine. Food is good high end pub grub rather than fine dining but that doesn't take anything away from it as its very tasty! Basic cheese and bacon burger is a must. Sunday roast in standard and vegetarian is very good . Well done I will continue to spoil myself by popping in for a pint and a nibble when I'm in town.

What a lovely place, sat outside admiring the beautiful view over the inlet, while having a sharing starter that was excellent for the 3 of us, ours mains were perfect for us, so much so we had to have pudding too. The service was excellent too, very quick and very pleasant, crossing the road to get beer was not too much trouble. Tried to use the app to order, but sun was too bright for the screen. Highly recommend this pub/restaurant worth the walk through town. Will try and visit again before we leave.

Fantastic little get away, aberdovey is so calm and peaceful, the penhelig is such a nice cosey hotel we stayed in room 4, the room was quite small but very cosey with a fantastic view of the estuary, there is a public car park just down the road next to train station which you can park on over night, the charge for car park is £11.00 overnight but the hotel said they would sort the parking out. We paid £65 for the night off peak in feb. The evening meal was amazing I had fish and chips and my partner had the steak, amazing food some of the best fish and chips I’ve had. Staff are welcoming and friendly. The location is great. If you have time and your a couple looking to escape the mad busy life of the city this is definitely a vacation I would recommend. The walk into aberdovey town is 10 - 15 mins there are shops and toilets in town, if you want some food there is a co op a 5 min drive in tywyn :)
