About us

Located in the heart of Chew Magna, The Pelican sits on the edge of the Mendips surrounded by beautiful Somerset countryside.

Inside, the cosy, modern bar and dining area with log fire is the perfect spot during the winter, while our spacious garden comes alive in the warmer months.

Outside, you’ll love our dog-friendly courtyard beer garden with a pergola area for those seeking shade on sunnier days.

Choose from a delicious seasonal menu with a focus on local produce and traditional pub classics, a selection of local Butcombe beers, spirits and cocktails behind the bar, and wood-fired pizza to eat in or takeaway throughout the summer.

Looking for somewhere to host an event or party? The Barn is a stunning space perfect for all kinds of private hire occasions, from birthdays and wedding receptions to stag and hen parties, and office Christmas parties.

We’re child-friendly and wheelchair-accessible, and ideally situated for walks and cycling routes around Chew Valley Lake, and trips to the Chew Valley Distillery right next door.

Had a wonderful time visiting this beautiful pub. My partner had the veggie burger and really enjoyed it, I had the fish and chips and would go as far to say it was the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Thank you for having us :)

Visited for a family lunch, the first time I’ve been to Chew Magna. Traditional country pub, with courtyard garden. Do a great cappuccino.

Brilliant food and service. Great that it’s dog friendly. Lovely atmosphere and the loyalty club benefits made this good value too. Very happy. We will be returning.

Would not go if you have an allergy. Asked three times if the meal was gluten free as it didn't look gluten free, after they went and checked with the kitchen again I ate it. I was so ill, like not just a bit of cross contamination, the meal was not gluten free at all, despite my best effort to check. I did email them to let them know but got no response. Not worth the risk if you have an allergy.

We got a booking at last minute on Thursday evening. Welcoming staff showed us to our table but never asked did we want a drink? Surely in a pub that's the first question. Menu quite limited but other pub was too so maybe they are all cutting down the choices. Burger was pretty good though a bit more coleslaw would have been good. Mrs had the curry which wasn't quite as good as she hoped but edible. Prices much the same throughout the eateries in Chew Magna.
