About us

We’re doing our best to find some history on the Old Kings Head, but we would really like to hear what you know about the pub, to help us piece together the pubs history.

During the building works, we found a time capsule with some interesting articles in, but sadly this only went back to 2013.

I've probably reviewed here before as it's a firm favourite for me and my husband. Walked in today and there was a wonderful fire on the go. We had a relaxed drink in the bar area before being seated for our meal. I had the roast chicken supreme which was out of this world delicious. We come regularly and I am disappointed that I hadn't tried it before! Highly recommend. Sticky toffee pudding for dessert - a real treat. My husband opted for the steak and chips and was very happy. Can't think of a better way to spend a Saturday night - my fave pub with my fave person. Thanks Old King's Head team for another fab meal!

All of the ales were off but I know this is what pubs struggle with these days. The waitress was happy to change my ale to another ale. It doesn't matter the ale because the problem isn't the brewery but for context, it was Wherry to Maldon Gold. I don't mark it down because I know that pubs don't sell enough now. All I'd recommend is to go to bottles. You would save yourself the hassle. Back to the experience. The outside is gorgeous. We wanted to sit there the entire night. The chips tasted of margarine or something. I think if you want to go down the route of a food pub then you should stick to Tallow. It tastes so much better and is healthier for you but I can't mark down because of it. I think the pub needs to stick to tradition and cook in tallow. I'd come here again.

Lovely pub, fantastic outdoor area, with very nice staff. Very fast service. Best steak and ale pie I've ever had and I've eaten alot of pies in my time !!! Just wish I lived closer.

Never been to this pub before. Stopped off for a Sunday Roast didn't book but was seated straight away after usual covid procedures. Got a table upstairs. Both of us had the 2 course £22.95 each. One Chicken one beef. Staff very good got drinks very quick and the roasts followed shortly afterwards. Plenty on the plates. Food and plates not hot enough. I don't want to be to critical of the food but here we go. Carrot and Swede mash a bit runny, potatoes not hot possibly been waiting for the next meal. Us. Red and green cabbage not for me as rather see peas carrots and green beans with my roast. My Chicken in the Yorkshire was good and the beef was well cut but a little bit fatty. Ordered extra stuffing at £3.95 when it turned up it was sausage meat that was possibly bought in as a roll. The pub is well decorated and staff are great. £22.95 for a 2 course is average but still a little over priced. Desserts were lovely best part of the 2 course.

Visited this recently refurbished pub for Sunday lunch. Never went before to know what it was like but its been refurbished to a high standard. Very smart and modern while keeping what look like original features. As many other reviewers have said, the food here is good. The Sunday roast was hot, a good size and tasty. Some aspects of the service are still being worked out we sensed. Staff were friendly but we had issues with the right food being brought, what food was available and the bill. Nothing significant but again I think this chimes with other reviews. This should be an easy thing to address. There is a reasonable amount of car parking available and a small outdoor space.
