About us

With no roads in or out, it's an 18 mile hike over munros or a 7 mile sea crossing to get here - and you deserve a great pint after making the journey. Our wee pub strives to offer the best there is, and support local all the way.

We are proud to be one of a few community-owned pubs in Scotland. Working for the benefit of Knoydart's 110-strong community, and the thousands of visitors we have each year - The Old Forge reinvests profits back in to the business and other community projects for the benefit of all.

Lovely to revisit The Old Forge 10 years on from the last time I was here. Recently refurbished to a high standard. We timed our visit perfectly with food available for the first time since the community buy-out. Excellent fish and chips, good beer selection and great service.

Great place, it's been done up so well. Nice microbrewery offerings on tap. No food on at time of visit.

We popped in for drinks and met Fiona, one of the lovely bar staff. She explained to us how the pub had only opened up earlier in the week and it is now owned by the community. Everything was newly equipped, painted and decorated, with the fanciest toilets I visited in Scotland! The kitchen wasn't yet open yet after the refurb otherwise we would have eaten there as well. Great atmosphere, played a game of pool, lots of people from the community and some tourists waiting for their ferry. Reasonably priced, would definitely visit again and recommend to anyone visiting Knoydart.

Visited the Noydart peninsula via a boat for a day trip. The historic pub itself was under restoration with picnic benches outside. Scenic location. No transport on site so good walking shoes is necessary. Lovely woodland and coastal walks. Shop near the old forge has basics if required for those staying. The community garden, 30min walk away has 4 large polytunnels with ample outdoor space yet surprisingly not much growing and certainly not enough to be self sufficient. Careful on walks as Ticks seems to be an issue.
