About us

By the early 1850's, The Oaken Arms had been established as one of the few public houses in the area at that time. Business was helped significantly by the demise of a much older inn on the Holyhead road, and also the increased amount of passing trade heading for Holyhead.

A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

Whether you are planning dinner with friends or Sunday lunch with family, book a table online and enjoy some quality time with those you love the most.

Really enjoyed our meals. Emma served us. She was very friendly and patient with us. We were also checked on by two other waitresses checking if our meals were ok and whether we needed more drinks. Excellent service. Good atmosphere on the inn and also it was nice and warm. It was cold outside. Meals were served in good time. All the meals were the right temperature and well presented.

Excellent pub with a welcoming atmosphere. Dogs really welcome. Food was lovely. Only fly in the ointment was the wait between coffee arriving and still waiting for our desserts. Almost finished our coffees first. However it is was very busy and only 3 staff Tring to juggle behind the bar and serving tables. Personally I think that is asking too much on such a busy lunchtime service.

Lovely cozy vibe and atmosphere with fireplace! Staff very polite, helpful and couldnt do more for us. Food was ok. The beef was tender besides being more cooked then some of us would have liked. But the sides and gravy were nice enough. The seabass however was too dry for my liking - I wouldnt have that dish again. All in all coffees were made well (hot enough!) And desert was good. So despite a few mishaps would definitely come again (just not for the seabass). Thank you!

1st time to this place and I found it was ok! My personal opinion is the starter was much better than the mains.. the service was great and the atmosphere was lovely However the mains was a let down for me. I have the salt and pepper calamari and that was the best calamari I’ve had in a while As we went as a family on a Sunday I chose to have the lamb Rump unfortunately it’s not what I expected The roast potatoes where to hard The vegetables are underwhelming and the Lamb couldn’t have been softer Also the parsnips some was rock hard over cooked!! The prices are very high for the mains of the quality I didn’t expect!

Well, if you're driving along the A41 looking for something to eat, keep driving. Called in rather than cooked tonight. The waitress Emma took my order - buttermilk chicken sandwich. The food arrived, and from first appearance looked ok. However, trying the burger, it was clear that this was not a fillet of chicken but rather reformed chicken, the kind you find in a well-known fast food outlet. The onion ring was cold, and the fries were lukewarm. I eat a 3rd of the burger before giving up and only a bite from the onion ring. Emma came over and asked if all was OK. I said no and explained politely why. She offered to change the meal, but by now, I was past wanting anything. I pushed the plate aside, and although Emma walked back past me a number of times, she chose to ignore me. Instead, another waitress came to take my plate at arms length. Then another waitress came over with my bill. Finally, the duty/manager came over with the card machine. There was no question of how was my meal. After paying for the meal I realised that all the waitress were now having a group conversation in the far corner, looking back at me and commenting. Now, they might not be happy that I criticised the food, but I was polite to them, so to witness I'm not a talking point is not acceptable and totally unprofessional. What's more, the duty manager made no apologises.
