About us

Set in 2 acres of pleasant grounds with its abundance of trees and shrubs, we have 3 self-catering holiday cottages adjacent to the inn, as well as a 22 pitch touring caravan site, all with electric hook up, toilet and shower block, and small park.

The inn has an interesting background, and started off as a two up, two down farmhouse in the mid 1800s when the enterprising farmer decided to add some more rooms and take in guests. It actually became a “hotel” in the 1890s with the landlords staying for many years before moving on. From 1923 to 1954 The Webb brothers ran the pub, one of the brothers training racehorses on the site. Photographs of some of his winners can be seen on the lounge walls of the pub today. Before, during and after the Second World War there was an R.A.F site two miles up the road and many of the officers, including Princess Margaret’s first love, Peter Townsend, visited the pub regularly. In fact, there is a Townsend Court in Acklington village. We have photographs of the R.A.F. camp on the walls of the pub.

Long time since we were last here but the food was as good as we remembered if not better. Lovely fire on that made for a great atmosphere and girl behind the bar was so friendly and helpful. Seats about 65 people so good for parties too, plenty of parking and wheelchair access. Open Wednesday till Sunday, from 12 noon till closing and food served 12 noon till 8pm Well worth a visit.

We are regular costumers and it's perfect! The showers are clean and hot! Toilets have loo roll and are clean. Shower block also had heating on so nice and warm. Pub and site are lovely, clean and quiet. Yes you hear the train but as it's called the railway Inn you'd expect that! Owner Henry is a great chap, always says hi. See you soon ! kev and Jackie

Popped in to suss out the camp sight and stayed for a bite to eat. Young lass behind the bar was very helpful and very pleasant. I opted for chicken and ham in mayo sauce in a seeded bun. It was lush and served with canny chips. My wife had a massive hot beef stottie sarnie, which she had to share with me 😁. Only down side was that there was no alcohol free beer to be had. Worth a second visit and an overnight, or two, camping stop.
