Been for Lunch today with 3 colleagues, I can honestly say I was embarrassed by the quality and service received. The food is both poor and very expensive the service is very slow. I would advise the owners to stop what they are doing and take a good look at all aspects of this place. It used to be good and worth a visit but I would never recommend this to anyone ever. All of us agreed that had we gone to a lay by cafe it would have been better and would not have cost 1/2 of what I paid. If you want steak pie either Rose and Crown York or the Black Swan York. And if you want Curry Birds eye do one to match the Wenlocks attempt at curry!
We hadn't booked but thankfully they had a table we could sit at with our Rottweiler. Staff were really friendly and chatty. The carvery was lovely, we had the steak pie with carvery veg which was really tasty.
I never wants pubs to struggle as it is difficult enough in these times for them Went for a Sunday roast with 7 of us for the first time as the family was up that way looking at a wedding venue. Everything was fine very friendly Apart from who ever is cutting the meat on the carvery needs to leave . He is letting the place down . I have have never had two thinner or small cuts of meat given to me . It was that thin it was like packet cold meat thin and small. It was clear that when I mentioned something he did say that what ever is left is for the staff to take . I asked twice for crackling as did most of my party and from this big bowl of it he cut you one tiny bit . I did notice as we were sat close to the carvery that a family came up he must have known he gave them loads of meat and cracking He was very ignorant and not a customer facing person . The ladies were lovely as were all the other staff . The veg gravy etc was great . Loads of that It’s a shame please sort him and do not ruin a great pub and eatery
My husband and I stopped here for lunch after previously visiting several times for quick drinks. We thought we'd get basic pub grub, but our expectations were more than exceeded! My husband ordered a rump steak, whereas I ordered the stuffed chicken breast wrapped in parma ham (which I heartily recommend.) Both dishes were absolutely delicious and came fairly quickly. Our server was sweet and attentive and all the bar staff were very friendly. We will definitely be returning soon!
A little bit of a drive for us but well worth it. The food was lovely, price was reasonable and the staff were really welcoming. Thanks a lot, if I'm around the area again, I'll be back.
