About us

The New Inn is an old Georgian coaching house dating back to the 1720's, situated on a crossroads in the centre of the picturesque village of Thornton Dale. It's character has been preserved with exposed wooden beams and open fireplaces being predominant features. In winter, a roaring log fire keeps you warm in our cosy bar, whilst in summer you can enjoy an ice cold drink in our sunny courtyard beer garden. Our restaurant seats 35 and our tasty homemade meals are also available in the bar and beer garden. We are proud to hold the Cask Marque award for our three handpulls which feature a wide variety of real ales so there is always a different tipple to try. If you wish to stay a bit longer than just for a drink or meal, we offer 6 en-suite letting rooms and also a self-catering holiday cottage. We are family friendly and dogs are welcome in the bar, beer garden and holiday cottage.

Ate here tonight for the first time in a while. Service was great as was the food. Definitely going back to the top of our local eatery list!

Lovely pub restaurant. Staff friendly, service good. Have been in for food twice this week and both times the food has been great. Would definitely eat here again and recommend to friends and family if they're in the area.

We have been using this pub for years and have always had a fantastic experience, however today was terrible. We had reserved a table, so we waited to be seated, a member of staff walked passed us several times, and totally ignored us, so we sat ourselves down, after 20mins, still no sign of any waitress, we had to eventually ask! We were not given menus or told it was just Sunday lunches, the communication was terrible, when our food arrived, the plates were that full of gravy the waiter dropped some down one of our friends back as he passed it over, he was totally oblivious to even doing it. The food was nice, but not as good as previous visits, we went to pay and because we were 3 families we wanted to spilt the bill, this was not possible, so one of us paid and we had to bank transfer him the money, which was ridiculous. I love this pub and brought 2 other family’s with us today, I was raving about how good it was but feel really embarrassed & disappointed with our visit!

Delicious Meals in Traditional Pub Setting Popped in for something to eat, we didn't have a reservation but the friendly waitress found us a table. The dining room was quiet but cosy, away from the hustle bustle of the main bar, making for a relaxing meal. The food was hearty and tasty, well worth waiting for. The waitress was helpful, attentive and friendly. The meals come in two sizes, small or large. We had the small and there was plenty to eat. Thornton-le-Dale hospitality at its best.

I’m still trying to process how bad the experience was I had today. I don’t think any words or explanation could paint the picture for you all of how bad it was. Please do not waste your money here, please just stay away. It was money wasted for me. Glasses were dirty, waited ages for food, Our food order finally came out after a very long wait, all accept for one of our meals and there was no apology just some made up excuse as to why it had been missed. We were told it would just be a couple of minutes. No exaggeration around 45 minutes passed before we then received the last meal to the table. The rest of us had finished a long time ago. Whilst waiting for the last meal to come other people were getting their food. I could not believe it so I mentioned to the waitress we were still waiting and would like a refund on the meal. As the rest of us were ready to go. She explained someone would come over shortly to discuss this. Nobody came! So I went to find someone in charge, the lady behind the bar didn’t seem to care at all and refused a refund and just pulled a face when I said we where still waiting on the meal 45 minutes after we had all finished ours. She actually sent someone who was stood at the bar to go see what the chef was doing. She couldn’t of cared less. Whilst waiting for our food the chef was stood out the back smoking several times and also you could hear the staff shouting in the kitchen. It honestly was like no experience I have ever experienced before! Even experienced the owners having a little domestic right in front of me at the bar during me being served and what was worse was I was limited on time with my visit to Thornton le dale and ended up actually spending the whole of the time I had in this terrible place. Also just to add everyone who was sat in the rear garden where all complaining amongst each other on there terrible experiences also. Such a shame because I have been here before and it was great for a Sunday lunch. Disappointed on todays visit is an understatement. Just gave me shameless vibes.
