THE NAGS HEAD INN

Welcome

We are a Grade 2 listed former coaching inn, nestled in between the canal routes to Welshpool and Newtown, in the beautiful village of Garthmyl, Montgomery, in Mid Wales. Just a stone’s throw away from the River Severn and close to the castles of Powis, Montgomery, and Dolforwyn. As a team we pride ourselves on our produce being local and all of our dishes being homemade by our chefs onsite. Our restaurant is also a proud holder of an AA Rosette award for five years running! We are also recipients of 5* awards for our accommodation from both the AA & Visit Wales.

Service was very good, the personal were very friendly and were making sure we had anything we needed. Although my starter the prawn cocktail wasn’t my favorite my fish and chips were delicious big portion batter was crunchy and perfectly golden, chips and mushy peas all was very good didn’t take a picture because I was to exited and couldn’t wait to eat. Overall a good service and food.

Lovely pub. Only stopped for a drink so can't review the food, but it looked and smelt amazing. The bar staff are lovely and very accommodating, and the atmosphere is wonderful.

We went for Christmas lunch at the nagshead Garthmyl. We were very disappointed. Four of us ordered turkey. We were first in the restaurant at 12.00. When the meal arrived at our tables. The turkey looked too thick to eat. We were in disbelief. When ordering we asked what veg comes with the dinner. We were told we had to pay extra. Red cabbage came on our plate We left our food We had Christmas pudding..when that arrived it was a small portion with a few red berries on top. We walked out after paying a big bill. I was sheer embarrassed. The waitress was new that day. The meat looked like it had been thrown on our plates Never will I recommend that place to eat. At that price, there were two glasses of wine and 3 coffees. They should go to the lakeside to see how it is run. We all were let down. It is the first review I have written with a disappointing out come

While walking the Severn Way, along the Montgomery canal, we stopped for a dink at the Nags Head. We had a dog with us, but the staff were very welcoming, found us some comfy seats and made sure we had what we needed. A really great place to stop off while walking - I'm a bit sad as we'd already eaten so weren't able to partake of the delicious smelling food that was being served around us. Maybe next time...

We booked our table for 10 whilst on holiday. Although busy for lunch, we got a table for the evening instead. As soon as we arrived we were seated and drinks order taken. Our nephew needs gluten-free, all clearly explained on the menu. When our food arrived it was served by 3 people, all fantastic. Portions were very generous and everybody enjoyed their meals. The roasts were delicious! Thank you for your excellent service, fantastic food and great atmosphere.
