The clock shows 9.55 - whatever the time. I booked one room for a night, wanting to avoid catching a train for Plymouth at 5.30 am in order to take the boat for the Isles of Scilly. Well, I was well awake at that time. The room overlooking a (very) busy road, by a the train line, one can only try to get some sleep with the 2 windows shut. A lot is still loudly heard, but a bit less than if you were on the road itself. Every single word said in the corridor shared by occupants of the 5 rooms is heard - and from the rooms you know exactly when the water tap is turned on. The 5 rooms - I don’t know how many people this means but my room is for 3 people - share one minuscule bathroom without a window: a bathtub next to toilet and small sink. I don’t know who has the courage to shower- let alone take a bath (!) in there. I didn’t, and washed in the splendid blue sea last night instead. The brown face towel looked as old as the white larger one - I used both very reluctantly. The springs of the mattress were dead, a sagging bed making my back uncomfortable throughout the night. In this heat because of the closed windows. Two bright light from the street and the building itself meant I could not enjoy the splendid moon nature offered us last night. What a sad place. I just felt used, in it. Like everything else in it. Like the carpets, the beddings, the mattress, the towels. Used to the bone.

After a long coastal walk in November we decided to pop in for a few pints. We had to wait a while for service, and when the barman/owner appeared, he looked fed up and annoyed that we were there. We had 2 pints and left for another now welcoming establishment. Basil Fawtly came to mind.

I live right opposite this hotel. The people who own and run this hotel are so friendly and helpful. They also do food which they deliver or you can collect every day. The food here is gorgeous, I love it. The downstairs of this hotel is a pub, a quiet village pub so you aren't bothered by noise should you stay there. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anybody who wants to stay for their holiday

Had a fantastic week in West Cornwall and this was the perfect location to stay. The room was comfortable at a great price. The staff where all very friendly as were a great number of the locals in the bar downstairs, staying on my own I was made to feel very welcome by all. A great breakfast was served every morning and I also had a couple of very good meals in the evening aswell. Would definitely come back here if I was visiting the area again, I have zero complaints.
