A place of pilgrimage and prayer for more than 1,300 years, Wimborne Minster is known for its chained library and fine tombs. Anthony Ettrick, known as ‘the man in the wall’, has a curious burial place inside the minster. A local magistrate, he obtained permission to make a recess in the wall, where his colourful coffin was placed in his lifetime. Convinced he would die in 1693, Ettrick had the date painted on the side; he did not die until 1703… and the date was altered!.
Typical "Spoons*" pub. One of the first occasions when the Fish and Chips were hot, well served and not marooned in batter. They had, I would personally say with some relief, run out of their range of Christmas Ales. There was a good range of their regulars.
Good beer, great prices of course. Food getting a tad expensive and the burger and chips didn't live up to expectation. They need to up their game on food. Not the first time it has disappointed. Overall though a lively and popular venue.
Popped into The Man in the Wall for breakfast while on a visit to Wimborne. I ordered the world renowned Standard Breakfast with unlimited hot drinks, served by a pleasant young lady who pointed out the drink machines as they are in a small alcove - breakfast quickly arrived at my chosen table, delivered with a smile and "enjoy" - very tasty. The interior décor is nice with a choice of high and low seating along with some quiet areas to hide away a bit, perfect for grumpy me! Very enjoyable experience - Thank you.
I love the cheese that they use to cook their ham and mushroom pizza!
Had a lovely lunchtime meal here. It's a large pub with lots of space. You will find the normal varied Weatherspoons menu with something for everyone. Great for vegetarians with lots of options. The staff were all really friendly, and it's very easy to order through the app. Food came quickly and was well cooked.
