My partner and I were in Longniddry for the weekend and we ended up at the Inn for both lunch and dinner. The food was good and the portions were big. Service was really good and friendly (special shout out to the waiter).
Went for lunch on Sunday, didn't book, arrived just before 12.30 but got a table. Staff were very friendly and well organised, food arrived quickly. I had the mixed seafood tagliatelle which I thought was lovely, 4 out of 5, the only let down was I had 5 mussels and 2 had not opened, also I had to unscrew the top of the pepper pot as it was not dispensing very well, other than that it was lovely, maybe a piece of bread to wipe up the sauce at the end. My wife had the roast lamb with veg, potatoes and gravy, she gave it a 3 out of 5, said the gravy could be more flavoursome (she's a chef, it's a nightmare cooking for her 😉) She wished she had a couple of the starters instead, in the past she's had the patè and said it was lovely. Overall I would say this visit was a 3 1/2 out of 5. No doubt we'll be back again sometime in the future.
We were here on Fathers day lunchtime. Combo and salmon sizzler were decent, as ever. However, the Stornoway black pudding was overcooked, and egg benedict under cooked and tasteless. The kids roast chicken meal was a bit dry, too. Shame, really, as we've visited here fairly regularly the past 10+ years and usually have a much better experience. Maybe just an off day.
Eat here very regularly. Food is always fab. Went for Mother's Day, which was a set menu, and lovely. My mother in law got the smaller portions, which was just enough for her. The desserts were fabby.
We haven't been to the Longniddry Inn for years and wanted to try it again to see what it was like. The menu was varied with something for everyone. The presentation of the poached egg and black pudding starter was lovely but the egg on both dishes was over cooked. The prawn cocktail seemed quite basic for the price. The sizzler plates all came with a sweet chilli sauce, it would be nice to have more options, maybe serving the salmon with a glaze instead. The pie was nice with good quality meat. Shame it was just a pastry top. I can't fault the portion size of the mains, they were huge even the children's meals. The service was slow at times and not everyone was as friendly as they could have been. I would say it's average pub food that some chain pubs could easily top.
