You will find The Bear and Staff in Leicester Square London within a short stroll of Leicester Square Tube, Charing Cross Road and Trafalgar Square - however you won't find another like it.
Step in to discover a traditional pub of unique character, revered for its eclectic range of real ales and its quality pub food, which are served, as they should be, with a generous measure of famous British hospitality.
The Bear and Staff pub has stood here since 1714, the name coming from the crest of the Neville Family. The pub counts villains and celebrities in its considerable history. One landlord lost his licence on proof of Sunday trading and robbery! The current building, dating from 1878, was once frequented by Charlie Chaplin and our restaurant is named in his honour.
The Bear and Staff is one of many rare gems in the Nicholson's collection of great British pubs, reputed for their distinctive buildings, intriguing history and vibrant atmosphere.

Would give this 3.5 stars if i could. The food was ok. I went with sausage and mash as authentic brit food. I don't regret it, but I wouldn't order again. Nothing lively or tasty about this dish. Just heavy comfort food with out much special flavor. Didn't regret it but would skip next time. The service was ok, but the young girl seemed quite distracted with other things while serving. She even managed to make a mess she particularly seemed loathe to clean. The interior lighting and mood is quite romantic. I really enjoyed it. They do not have wifi and the bathrooms are tiny and not handicap friendly... I'd return to this place, sure.
Very busy, popular pub, right in the tourist area. They have a great choice of real ales here and a decent menu (not tried the food myself, although it looks pretty good). This is what I would call a proper London pub. Well worth a visit.
The Bear and Staff is an amazing experience. I've passed it so many times but we wandered in after a theatre trip and the staff were amazingly friendly. Great atmosphere and not packed at all. Comfortable and easy to have a conversation without being drown out like some pubs you can go to. Really enjoyed the experience and will be back again for sure!
Came for dinner during my girls trip to London. I ordered the tomato basil soup and the slow-cooked beef rib, and pulled brisket pie. Both were incredible!!! Paired amazing with a glass of the Rioja wine. My cousin ordered the fish and chips, cooked and seasoned well. My sister got the nachos which she enjoyed. 10/10 recommend. Andy was our wonderful server. So grateful for the good vibe and great food!
I ordered the Steak and Nichols Pale Ale pie, and it was tasty. The meat was well seasoned, and so were the veggies. Portion was just right for me. The 0nly reason why I took a star off the atmosphere is because you can smell the cigarette smoke from outside coming in due to the door being open. It made my eating uncomfortable. None the less, Place was great.
