So for the first time in my life Christmas dinner wasn't at home with the family & the conundrum of where to eat on the day was a good one....Someone suggested the Lion Hotel & so I made a phone call, from there the process was silky smooth, friendly & professional. I was asked for an email address so the menu could be sent out for my party to choose their courses & paid the deposit. In the fullness of time I paid the remaining balance & waited for the big day. We weren't disappointed, the day was extremely well organised, the delicious food was delivered on time & piping hot. The staff were very friendly & efficient - We were one person light because of illness & the staff 'plated up' the meal for us to take away. What more can you ask for ? The whole day was a welcome change to the usual mayhem & stress. I can't praise the Hotel & staff enough - many thanks for a very enjoyable day & I reckon we'll be returning this year.

We use the Lion Hotel when visiting family and friends in the area. We have never had a bad stay at this hotel. A real home from home. The staff are lovely; professional, friendly and nothing is too much trouble.

Cannot comment on rooms however, as for the restaurant. This used to be my date spot, blowing £200 here easily. Now the food is bland and inedible. The pasta was purely swimming in sweet sickly cream with chewy grisly chicken. My wife and friends pizza was bland, fully the only tasty thing on it was the bell peppers. My cousins chicken burger was purely rubber. The only edible thing was: garlic bread (bland but edible) , mozzarella sticks and onion rings. Upon giving the male members of staff kind feedback he told us to leave. Was extremely rude. I easily understand why the whole restaurant was empty at 5pm. And still we could not get any service from the time we ordered to the time we got our food. Which was 50 minutes. We was kind and said 30 as to not be harsh and we was told to leave. I fully understand why the place is empty on a Friday night...

The hotel was easy to find except google Maps takes you to the front and parking is round back. The lady who checked us in was lovely, patient, and friendly. The room was spotless and looked exactly like the pictures. The bed was big, very comfy, and the water in the bathroom was hot with good pressure. There is lots of space to unpack and hang things up. It was a warm night, so we used the A/C, which was very effective. After we left, I got a call from the same lovely lady to say I had left my pillow behind (I have a back condition and use a special pillow) and she arranged to post it to me. I thought this was really kind and service above and beyond! I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Really good stopping point halfway up the country. Beautiful rooms. Good restaurant. Friendly helpful staff. Good parking. Not that easy to find the entrance as the main frontage is on a pedestrianized street. You have to find your way round the back. Follow the signs to a little public car park and the hotel entrance and its own parking is just off that.
