About us

You will find The Bank in Manchester within a short stroll of Portland Street, York Street and George Street - however you won't find another like it.

Step in to discover a traditional pub of unique character, revered for its eclectic range of real ales and its quality pub food, which are served, as they should be, with a generous measure of famous British hospitality.

Our pub is in one of the most culturally and historically important buildings in Manchester. Originally The Portico Library, it was conceived in 1803 by a group of businessmen and built in Runcorn stone and a neo-classical style. The library and newsroom opened three years later in 1806 and the Portico Library still survives upstairs.

The Bank is one of many rare gems in the Nicholson's collection of great British pubs, reputed for their distinctive buildings, intriguing history and vibrant atmosphere.

Best Fish Chips in Manchester. Fish batter was perfect, crunchy and not oily at all. The oil used is new and clean. Enjoyed very much. Service was excellent , we were sharing a large portion, the nice server gave us 2 side plates without us asking :) The ambience is very interesting, it used to be a bank !! There is also no service charge! Thumbs up Will definitely visit again โ˜บ๏ธ thank you

The staff were so nice and welcoming. Tom was very kind sorting our gift card issue. Very happy with the service, although some of the menu had sold out, the pies we had were absolutely outstanding, the starters really tasty and deserts amazing. full of flavour. Over all a fabulous meal in lovely surroundings with professional and accommodating staff.

An absolute stunner of a venue no doubt about that. And I love that an old bank building can be used for public access. Great mood, friendly atmosphere and staff. I had a burger and it was decent- but it felt a little processed/frozen/heated. My guess is that The Bank belongs to a chain of pubs and the menus are similar to wherever they you go. Meaning that the kitchen probably only heats up parts of your meal. A little lacklustre for the price you pay. Having said that, great choices of beers/draughts and I would absolutely visit again. But would maybe go for snacks and beer instead.

4.5 Star. The location is very convenient, city center location. The decor is nice. Staff is very nice. I like the soup, rich with tomato ๐Ÿ… and smell good with the herbs ๐ŸŒฟ. Just a small recommendation, the butter is far too much and a waste, can consider small portion for butter with soup, with refill if needed. Rib eye steak is well cooked. Unfortunately it doesnโ€™t come with salt or rose salt, thatโ€™s why deduct for 0.5 point. Mushroom is good, and I like the source comes with the veggie. To be honest this is a little bit too much for one person. Havenโ€™t order any alcoholic drinks, but definitely will try next time.
