Been a few times with the family. Good quality food and friendly staff. Good menu with plenty of choice. I'll be back again in the near future.

Good size room. Enough space for a travel cot without feeling cramped. Had 2 evening meals, both of which have been superb. Breakfast was also very good. Staff are very polite and helpful. Decent drink selection at the bar.

Our daughter bought us a voucher for afternoon tea as a Christmas present. Having booked about a week before our visit we arrived with half an hour to spare to be told they didn't know what the booking was for, all that was written in the book was my name and the time of arrival. The assistant manager had taken the booking and omitted to write down that it was for afternoon tea, also there was no contact telephone number written down. The lovely assistant said she would check with the chef to see if they had the right things for afternoon tea. We ordered a glass of wine and a beer...the beer was free because of the mix up which was a nice jesture. The assistant then went out to buy cakes.!!!!....once the afternoon tea was served the sandwiches were nice, ham, tuna but, cucumber sandwiches, really? We noted that the cakes were an assortment of Mr Kiplings cakes. Not impressed, especially as we had expected home made ones. We had to ask for cream and butter to go with the scones. The dessert was a sort of Eton mess. It was so icy cold we couldn't eat it. The cakes we tried were awful and we left them....ALL OF THEM There was no decaff tea, I had to have decaff coffee and, no one asked if everything was ok or if we had enjoyed it. The full price of this cobbled together meal was an astounding £30 per couple. As it was a voucher we presume it was at a cheaper price. This has to be the most disappointing Christmas present we have ever received. The two girls on duty were very apologetic, and, we got the feeling they were embarrassed at their assistant managers incompetence. Hence our score of only two stars.

Ate in the Castle Inn for the first time last night. Lovely and clean inside, good menu with good plenty of choices. The food was delicious and the service was great, we will certainly be returning again, happy to highly recommend.

Had a lovely weekend stay at the Castle Inn and would highly recommend for anyone looking for a break in the north of England! The manager was great and really welcoming, giving us a great recommendation for places to visit. We stayed in room one for two nights (the one with the stunning restored copper bath!) which was superbly furnished and tastefully decorated. The restaurant served delicious meals too - we ate there on both nights and can seriously recommend the haddock and chips with homemade tartare sauce!! All in all, a little gem perfectly positioned for the lakes and the west coast - I'd highly recommend a stay at the Castle Inn:)
