The Stables was built to serve the watermen and horses using the Forth and Clyde Canal. When the canal was first built the boats that used it were pulled by horses, as a horse could go a few miles before needing a rest stables were built along the route.
The stables would have an Inn on one side where the boatman and his passengers might rest and eat whilst on the other side there would have been equine accommodation with a hayloft above.

A lovely restaurant with a great selection of food. We are awkward customers as I’m gluten free and my husband has a nut allergy. The staff were so knowledgeable about allergies and made sure that our food was safe. Sarah was a lovely server and took a genuine interest in talking to us and making us feel welcome. We had a starter and a main and all of the food was amazing. Our chef, Callum was a fab chef and the meals were cooked and presented to a very high standard. Coffees were top notch too! The staff were attentive and kind. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed. We had a great Saturday night out here. Would definitely go back, thank you to the stables!🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Went out for there doggy Christmas night and it was fantastic. The food was delicious by chef Stu and service was amazing by the lovely Sarah. We will definitely be back! 10 out of 10 would recommend!
First visit and I will certainly be back. Lovely decorated, big log fire to welcome us in. Food was delicious. The staff were polite and friendly. Thank you to Suzie and Jack for serving us and helping my friend with menu choices. And the gluten free choices.
I was on route back from a long bike ride and stopped off here for lunch. Service was quick and very friendly. Two pints, two sandwiches and chips. Total bill was £30 including the tip. It was even warm enough to sit outside. Worth a stopover if you are along the canal.
Very nice and cosy!! 🪵🕯️ The food was awesome. We tried the signature burger and the buttermilk chicken burger, both really hit the spot. The place has a really nice atmosphere and decor. And the scenery surrounding the place with the canal was nice. Highly recommended. ✨
