About us

The White Horse Inn pub is reputed to be one of the oldest in England let alone the Isle of Wight, as it was first recorded as a public house in 1454. With many more than 500 years of heritage and hospitality behind us you can expect a warm and friendly welcome at this free house at any time of the year.

Pet and child friendly…

We even have a bouncy castle during the summer… For the kids that is!

Enjoy Excellent Local Food & Drink

These days food is very much at the heart of a good pub, we pride ourselves on presenting a menu of food that is certain not to disappoint you. Our specials and main menu are packed with local Island produce and provide excellent choices for all tastes with quality selection of gluten-free and vegetarian options available, with everything prepared and cooked in our own kitchen – you can enjoy quality home-cooked flavours with every visit.

Our real ales change regularly and there are normally at least three to choose from, including some of best that our local Island breweries can provide. Choose from our range of premium lagers and cider and one of the best wine lists available in any pub of the Island.

Characterful Atmosphere

Inside the White Horse Inn you will find a charming traditional bar area as well as spacious and well laid-out places to enjoy your meal. The walls are decorated with old images of Whitwell as well as some vintage farming equipment that might have seen action around the village in years gone-by.

It’s a proper village pub with a large beer garden and children’s play area and ample car parking, we also welcome well-behaved dogs.

Cosy pub with a real fireplace and excellent food! I had the venison pie! We accidentally found this pub coming from a long walk along the coast trying to find a bus stop nearby. The pub owners gave us a lift from where we could get back to Newport. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😃😃

We booked for Sunday lunch in advance which i feel for August was advisable. Lovely beef roast with plenty of vegetables. Ale was well kept and there was a local choice which was nice. Lovely garden to sit out in (we luckily had fab weather) and live music too. What not to like.

A beautiful beer garden with some lovely rabbits. The beer and wine selection is good and fantastic staff who were polite and friendly. We didn’t eat but it was busy with people eating and I would definitely recommend a visit here. Dog friendly too.

I had the pleasure of frequenting this pub during my stay on the Isle of Wight. It is by far my favorite pub in the whole of the UK. There were fun events and live music that engaged people with each other. The food was easily the best food ( not just pub food) I had during my stay in the UK. I had the pleasure of tasting most things on the menu. Treat yourself and go for the specials. I wasn't disappointed by a single meal. The steak and ale pie is a must here! The most endearing part of the White Horse Inn are the people that are frequently found there. The owner, the bartenders, the staff and the local community created a welcome environment that is truly the heartbeat of the pub. If you meet a surly man at the bar who has strong opinions about what you should be drinking (and everything else) that's David, and he's not wrong. The White Horse Inn is the quintessential pub experience everyone visiting the UK should have. I'm lucky I found this gem tucked away in a humble part of the Isle of Wight. I cannot wait to get back.
