Had a wonderful experience here with my partner. The rooms were tidy and cozy, and the staff are incredibly welcoming and kind! The food in the pub below was also very delicious and well priced. Would recommend if you want a B&B out of the way.
Called in for a delicious meal whilst we were on holiday over Christmas. Pub was quite small but very popular and incredibly cosy. Felt it could have been taken straight out of a Pennines farming village TV series. Staff and locals were incredibly friendly. There was a huge lively roaring fire and they managed to squeeze us in for a meal inspite of us not having a booking. Food was delicious (Reiver pie and blueberry and apple crumble for me and scampi and chips and lemon sorbet for my companion). Dogs were also welcome too. Would highly recommend for a delicious atmosphere and a very friendly welcome with excellent service.
We came in and there was a roaring fire in a beautiful cast iron range, large, stout rough timber tables on a stone flag floor - exactly what you want in a pub in the northern fells. There was a group of locals chatting away around a bench. Which felt encouraging. I went to the bar and there was at least 3 cask hand pulls on of interesting and good beers all with the casque mark plus at least 3 real ciders - even better. Slight downside was it took a while to get served. There was a pair of young lads doing kitchen duty (likely too young to serve) who walked past the bar often and saw me waiting but didn't seem to raise this with anyone else. Never mind, not a big deal. The ale was kept beautifully and the snack choice included bacon rashers so I was extremely content. As we drank, more and more locals came in which is how a good local pub should be. I will say that several of our group were made to feel uncomfortable by the reactions from the locals when we entered - mutterings of astonishment that there were two females amongst us was a bit weird and something that even in such isolated areas we really should have left behind by now. Not the pub's fault as there was no attendant bar staff to call it out, or drown-out this puerile stuff with a warm greeting.
This is the second time I have stayed at the Hollly Bush, and I found it really enjoyable the staff were really helpful the food was excellent, the room was just right. I would definitely recommend it. They serve good gluten free beer. I ate a superb curry that was a real treat.
This is my 2nd visit to the Holly Bush Inn. Myself and my partner visited here 5 years ago after the dark skies event, and we said we would always want to come back here. This is such a hidden gem. The location is set in a beautiful place, the rooms are very clean and warmly… It’s like staying in a miniature cottage. It really has a country feel. The pub serves food and a great selection of ales.. The food is superb! It looks delicious and tastes delicious. We sat in the beer garden with beauty of scenic views! The staff are all very welcoming and kind and basically very warm. They all seemed to like to be there. This is really a hidden gem, and of course we will be back again to be part of this! Please don’t change! :)
