About us

These former council offices are in the heart of a village which became a Tyneside suburb. They were built in 1904 by the Carr-Ellison family which leased the building to the former Wickham Urban District Council. The premises are now named after the local boat-builder and oarsman Harry Clasper, who became a famous sportsman in Victorian times. Clasper was a pub landlord throughout his racing career and is buried in St Mary’s churchyard.

Somewhat disappointed, having eaten in a few Wetherspoons I thought the seating areas were untidy due to the staff being slow to tidy the place up after clients had left the building. I ordered my meal, fish & chips plus a side of onion rings, on the app only to find the onion rings did not arrive (until I commented several minutes later) and the fish & chips were not their usual standard. Do not think I will be back any time soon.

Beautiful old large building with delicious food. Small parking in front of the pub

The table was dirty and it took quite a while for someone to wipe it clean even after bar informed. However, the service after this was really good. Pleasant and friendly waiter. Food as always was delicious and at a fair price. Parking was an issue as dodging the barrel change. Overall it was a better Weatherspoons as the ceiling was not so high so there wasn't the usual echoing and noise even though it was very busy.

Limited parking but plenty of seats and tables out front. There is way more room inside than I was expecting. Send a nice calm place rather than some boozy bar so I liked that. Staff were great and fast. Good was pretty good fit a pub. Only issue I had was the loaded chips, just my opinion but maybe rename them to 'sparsely sprinkled' as there was not much cheese or bacon. Anyway cheers and would maybe go back for a quick bite to eat.

Well there's posh wetherspoons and theres not so posh wetherspoons..This is an awesome wetherspoons..its massive and off the main rd in Whickham so you cant miss it. I had a few pints whilst waiting for a lift home..whilst there i was welcomed & served by a lady with a nice smile & manner about her..the food that was coming from the kitchen looked very nice & plentiful..Theres lots of beers-ales to choose from and it wasnt that packed. I managed to take a few pics but didnt want to attract attention to my self..i managed tofund the loo and Wow what a swanky loo, even got a fireplace πŸ˜²πŸ»πŸ‘..marks outta 10 i give it an 13/10 yes i will most certainly be going back..🍻😁
