About us

We think a pub should look and feel like a pub, each one is traditionally furnished and creates the perfect atmosphere for you to relax & enjoy yourself what ever the occasion!

You are always sure of a warm welcome from Brendan, Julia and their staff who look forward to hosting you at the Hare & Hounds, a 200 year old coaching inn with much character set in the village of Sway in the heart of the beautiful New Forest.

Just a short drive from the Hare & Hounds is Sway Tower which stands some 218’ high. The tower was built of unreinforced concrete in 1879 and took five years to construct. Allegedly the owner was guided by Sir Christopher Wren via a medium to construct the tower.

The unique combination of the quality of the Hare & Hounds cask conditioned ales, together with a wide selection of fine wines and a varied menu of freshly prepared homemade specials, guarantee you will be spoilt for choice. Whether you are looking for a quiet drink, light lunch or 3 a course meal, this family run pub brings together everything to ensure you get a flavour of the forest to make your visit enjoyable.

Our favourite place to go! Another super meal out with friends, great quality food, beautifully cooked and presented. Enjoyed the roaring fire and atmosphere. Can highly recommend pulled pork burger!!

Loved everything about the H&H. Food, service, staff, location, outside seating, mammoth bar chairs, good beer selection and reasonable prices given today's climate. Meal for 2 including a bottle of wine (£24) and 2 pints, £64. Stunning example of a Sunbeam Tiger in the carpark just finished the evening off superbly.

Great pub in the heart of Sway, a stones throw from the New Forest & Brockenhurst. Good selection of pub classics including several burgers, salads and also pies. They have a specials board home to New Forest specialties including venison and game. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Lovely and welcoming! Overall would recommend to anyone looking for a countryside pub. 🍻🍔

On holiday in the area last week and came across this pub. Friendly welcome and a great choice of tasty food. Make sure you check out the specials board.

Absolutely incredible. Couldn’t speak of it highly enough and will definitely be back. We booked for lunch at 12pm and are glad we did, it’s clearly a very popular pub and got very busy with people dining by 1.30pm. The food was delicious! Great portions and was impeccably presented. The decor of the pub was also brilliant, very relaxed country pub style with a touch of modern and some entertaining signage also. Thank you so much for a wonderful meal team and we hope to be back soon.
