Generic pub grub, good selection of drinks on tap, great service, very friendly and accommodating. Dog friendly. Very clean toilets.
On attempting to discover a third location to enjoy a regular lunch. We sampled The Bun Penny, arriving a little before noon on a cold Friday in January. We ordered our drinks and requested a waitress to take our food order with the barman who explained the process and where we might sit with our small dog, which was the bar area only! So after more than a 20 minute wait, we abandoned the pub because the promised waitress had not appeared. The pub also suffered because it was cold and the pipped music was just too loud. Thus, a pub with a poor selection of beer’s and no service we left to find somewhere who wanted our custom. However, the menu looked reasonably. Not surprisingly, we are not planning a return visit.
Had a beer mid afternoon, with an ex-Royal Navy veteran who was based at HMS Daedalus nearby and 'the Bun' was his old stomping ground. Excellent staff, prompt service, good selection of beers etc, AND the place was buzzing. So different to other pubs nearby, from my experience. Worth a visit again.
The food here is the best and the most reasonably priced I've had in ages. It's now my go to for good food. I only have 2 requirements when I pay someone else to feed me. I expect it to be as good but preferably better than I would do it. And this place does it way better than I could . Bye bye Harvester, no more chances Old ship, forget you expensive steak places. Bun Penny clearly actually employs a chef .
First time at the bun penny, recommend so thought we’d give it a go and what a surprise, both had mixed grill and crème brûlée for pud. The mixed grill was delicious although huge portions everything on the plate was well cooked and had lots of taste, crème brûlée was slightly over done which wasn’t an issue but the raspberry sorbet was to die for very refreshing and cleansed the palate. Would we go back definitely would we recommend definitely
